Arrival Story: On August 9th, 2001, we lost our first cocker spaniel, Hannibal, to severe sepsis and heart failure. Hannibal was 6 at the time, which is a young age for a dog, and we were all heartbroken. Soon after, my grandparents understood that they couldn't live without a dog, so my grandmother searched around the area looking for caramel-colored purebred American cocker puppies, so that our future dog would look exactly like Hannibal. Several newspaper ads & phone calls later, we stumbled upon a litter of 3-week-old puppies (born on July 16th), which would be ready to leave their mom in about 2-3 weeks. The moment we saw Gustav (or the puppy who was later to become Gustav), we fell in love with him, since he was the most active and playful of the litter, and seemed to have taken a genuine interest in us. We bought him straight away and he was brought over on August 29th, 2001. Imagine our surprise when we saw his paperwork - Hannibal's full name was Hannibal Logant Kent, and this little pup turned out to be his cousin! Ever since then, he's been the most important member of the family, spoiled rotten by everyone and allowed to do anything he pleases...

Bio: Gustav, unfortunately, has epilepsy, an illness common amongst purebred cockers, and constantly needs to be disciplined, since he's perfected the art of stealing food from the table. His seizures have become more rare, thanks to medication and our attempts at keeping him on a healthy diet, yet he still manages to steal our grandma's famous meat pies ;)
