Arrival Story:
I was looking for a companion for my then six year old pug/min pin mix. I had wanted a dachsund, since I had one as a child, but wanted to give an unfortunate dog a home. I found Benny on the Dachshund Rescue of N. America site and read his sad story and saw his sweet face and knew he had to come live with me--even though he was 4 hours away in Alabama. Ben had been the Pet of the Week at the Tuscaloosa shelter, adopted out, beaten at his adoptive home, and then returned to the shelter in the middle of the night. The staff found him tied up to a tree outside. The rescue worker drove to meet me half way, and I picked Ben up. As soon as Benny got to his forever home, he did a little dance. I think he knew he was safe at last.

Bio:
Benny made much progress in his four years with me and his sister, Mamie. He at first hated strangers, especially men, but got better. I saw his confidence grow by leaps and bounds. Sadly, I lost him Memorial Day weekend of 2004, when he died of smoke inhalation when my house caught fire. His sister made it out, but he didn't. I still greive for him, and hope he knows that he was such a special boy and how much I loved him.

This weekend (Memorial Day weekend) is my 5th anniversary of going to the Bridge. My family still misses me, even after all this time. I have received love and support from other Dogsters on this anniversary. Mom and I thank everyfur. I continue to make new friends ATB.

My Bridge Buddy, Hayley tagged me.

Here are seven things about me:

1. I was in 5 homes (including the shelter) by the time I was adopted at age 2.
2. I was a dear, sweet, gentle soul.
3.I used to dance on my hind legs whenever Mom would play the stereo. She would dance with me.
4.I was always at Mamie’s side. She protected me from the world.
5.I used to hide my chewies in the baseboards, and I always hid my kongs around the house. Mom had to keep buying more because she could never find the ones I hid.
6.I LOVED to take rides in the car. I would try to get in the car every time we went on a walk.
7.I loved to howl with joy. Howl, howl, howl! Arooooo! Especially in the car.

I choose to tag:
1. Heidi
2. Morganna
3. Autumn
4. Sailor
5.Nikki with Silver Wings
6. Rosie
7.Rusty Pooh Bear
