Arrival Story:
Buddy was born on an unknown date in 2003. He was then passed on to a family who had two small children. When the family had to move, Buddy was then surrendered to the Circle of Friends Humane Society in early November of 2004. When he was brought there workers were told that he was unmanageable, had no obedience training, had a barking problem and was not housetrained. In January of 2005, his current owner (that's me!) came to the Humane Society to look at a certain dog that was a Rottweiler mix and to check out any others to see if they were suitable. As it turned out the Rottweiler didn't want to have anything to do with me. Buddy was the first dog I saw. The first time I went into the kennel area Buddy ran to the gate and gave his best 'adopt me' look. After looking at all the other dogs, I then went to Buddy's kennel to look at him again - scratching and talking to him through the fence. The next day I came back with my brother to take another look and see if his allergies would kick-in. I asked to see Buddy and spent time outside the kennel with him and another dog, Zoe. Fawn colored Zoe was large, young and beautiful, but shed just too much and being only five months old and a Shepherd cross, would have been too big. Plenty of time was spent in prayer and thought and after a fitful night of sleep and a less than fruitful day at work - Buddy was then adopted on January 7th. In his new home, Buddy appeared to be housetrained, with the exception of feeling the need to mark his territory. He also learned the sit command right away. It also took two days before I heard him bark. Now, Buddy only barks at cats, rabbits, deer and me when he wants attention. He has also learned to lie-down, shake paws, stay, sit-up and turn-around - and when he feels like it will roll-over as well. Buddy gets along well with small children, but has a tendency to jump on them when he's excited. He's been a changed boy since his neutering, but is still active and a bit more manageable now. With the right up-bringing, Buddy's going to have a bright future.

Graduated from Beginners Obedience on July 7, 2005 and Advanced Beginners Obedience on September 20, 2005.

Can I say that again? I am SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!! Last night Mommy and I were at doggie school again. Working off-leash is fun, but I have to remember to do what Mommy says or else I get a good yank to get me back into focus. Anyway, teacher sure is fun and she tries to get me to run and play with her, but Mommy's on the side-lines telling me to stay. Oh, how I'd love to play with teacher - but I did what Mommy told me to do and I got so many rubs and kisses and praise - I am SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!!

I can handle the rain, wind and lightning - but that BIG, noisy sound you call thunder hurts my ears. Ouch! It's just like the fourth of July and those things you call fireworks. Makes me shake all over and do stupid things like run out into the rain and hide under the Jeep - when I KNOW I should just stay inside. (Heavy Sigh) I wish you could've stayed at home with me instead of going to work.

Oh, and I'm sorry for farting in doggie school last night.

What's That Noise?!?

Mom and I have been staying at Grandma's for the past couple of days. I love it - plenty of treats and lovin' and playin' to go around. But last night something was wrong. Mommy says I have a 'mean bark' when I voice my opinion of tresspassers on Uncle Christopher's farm in the middle of the night (those pesky deer). Well, last night a noise woke me up and I immediately gave my mean bark - after all, things don't go bump in the night at Grandma's. Turns out it was Grandma herself doing a little bit of housework. Can believe she told me to be quiet??!!!! The nerve. I was just trying to protect the place. Oh, well. I'll just keep doing my job, because Mommy says I'm a good boy.
