Learning to swim

Over labor day, I learned how to swim! I've always been really afraid of the water since my first family would throw me into their pool. But while we were on vacation at PawPaw and Didi's cottage some friends of my Dad's came over with their two children. Ivan and I LOVE kids. No matter what age or size and we are VERY careful to never jump on anyone especially kids. So kids usually love us cause we'll let them hang all over our backs and necks because they are so cute! So, one of the kids, Xander, wanted to go to the beach, so Mommy took Ivan and I with them down to the beach. I was pretty scared of the water, but there weren't any waves and when Ivan decided it would be nice to walk around in the lake and drink lake water I decided I might want to try it. At first, I didn't like the water on my legs but Mommy and Xander kept calling me into the water. So I decided finally that I would at least get my front feet wet.

Well, then Xander started throwing rocks! I love chasing things! He was throwing things for me to go get! Well, I decided that maybe I should try to get one of the rocks he was throwing. I'd RUN to catch the rock before it sank into the water. Well, I just could not get one of those rocks, but before I knew it, I was up to my chest in water! I couldn't believe it! I wasn't scared anymore! Xander is only 3 years old, so I was having lots of fun chasing him around the water and pawing at the rocks that fell to the bottom. I would try to pick them up in my paw but just couldn't. And there was NO WAY that I was going to put my head under the water. Well, finally Mom got one of the rocks and gave it to me! Well, I was so happy to have saved the rock that I went and put it on the shore so it wouldn't drown! Then Mommy kept giving me the rocks and I kept saving them so I had a nice little pile on the beach when we finally were done.

All this time, Ivan just swam around and around and watched me try to catch rocks. THen, when I'd start running, he'd jump on me!

I've decided that swimming in a lake with no waves is JUST the thing for me. I'm so thankful that Mommy and Xander showed me that water CAN be fun!
