Arrival Story:

Bio:
I hadn't realized how much baggage adult dogs come with but we've worked through it. We're still trying to work on the barking. My other 2 pugs, Bumper and Maggie, rarely bark. Toby is also a very anxious dog. I know his previous owners didn't have a lot of time for him. They both worked full time and he spent his days in the basement. They spent time with him in the evenings but he was not allowed on the furniture. (Part of the reason they gave him up was because they loved him and knew he needed more than they could give). Here, he can go where he pleases. He never leaves my side. He's a lap hog and regrettably, I actually have to turn him away at times so my other 2 babies get time on my lap. He is really cuddley and a sweetheart. He has the most expressive face. He makes us laugh because as it true with pugs, he is a clown.

I'm the neurotic one. I bark a lot and I lick my paws.

I originally came from a puppy mill in Cincinnati, Ohio when I was just a baby. A wonderful family adopted me and I lived with them until I was 3 1/2. My first Mommy was having another baby and Daddy didn't want all the pug hair around, so they needed to find me another home. Enter my new Mommy who just loves pugs to death. I have lived with her, Daddy and the other 2 puggies for 16 months now.

In the mornings, I stay in bed after the alarm clock goes off. Mommy gets ready and the other 2 pugs stay in the bathroom with her. Sometimes Bumper gets back in bed with me but mostly, I have the whole bed to myself. At 6:00, Mommy says "And we all say Toooobeeeee Toooobeeee. Time to get up, Toby!" I belly-crawl to the edge of the bed where Mommy rubs my face and scratches my belly.

This morning, I got up, ate and went right outside. I went to the overstuffed chair and sulked because Mommy was going to work. Mommy planted a couple of kisses on my head and told me she loved me before she left.

When she got home, she greeted us all, although Maggie tried to push me out of the way by biting my armpit. She wants Mommy all for herself. I try my best to be a Mommy hog but Maggie won't allow it. Mommy does make sure that I get attention and won't let Maggie keep pushing me out of the way. Bumper isn't pushy like Maggie. He just gives up and walks away. I wish Maggie were like Bumper. Then I could have Mommy all to myself.

We went for a walk and I kept trying to chase after cars but for some stupid reason, Mommy keeps pulling on the leash and saying "No chase!" She gets upset when I do that, telling me if something happened to me, she be very sad. When a car goes by and I don't chase it, she bends over to pet me and says "good boy!". What's the big deal about chasing cars? I'll bet I'd beat one in a race. Besides, it's fun chasing something that's afraid of me. I mean, it's got to be afraid of me - it's running away from me!

We had a nice dinner tonight - hot dogs cut up in our regular dog food. Mmmmm. I usuallyfinish my dinner first, then try to eat Bumper's. Mommy says this is not allowed, that fat pugs die 1-3 years sooner that others.

After our final evening walk, we came in and sat down. I'm always right next to Mommy. She can't resist scratching our bellies or rubbing our ears or backs or necks when we're next to her. She also gives us puggy masages. I love being right next to her. At my old house, I wasn't allowed on the furniture. Here, I'm allowed not only on the furniture but in the bed with Mommy & Daddy.

I''m getting very snoozy now . I think I'll go to sleep. Mommy said she's rub my back.

Love,
Toby
