Arrival Story:
Bakari is a rescue dog from Kentucky. His chances of leaving the shelter were slim due to his breed, fear and scars. He was a scaredy dog when he showed up at our door, but a little love and he's coming along just fine.

Bakari has lived a hard life. He has numerous scars around his face, neck and legs. He is missing a tiny piece of his tongue and what is left is split about an inch up to make it look like a snake tongue. No matter what this world has given him, his only desire is to snuggle and be loved.

Well a lot has changed for me in the last few months. In a whirlwind I was sent from the shelter in Kentucky to Bangor, Maine. Then my grandma got sick so we moved to Westbrook. My mom thought the move would be hard on me, but once the car ride was over, I did good.

Mom says I've come a long way since I got here. I used to be a very scared dog and would growl a lot at people. I don't get scared very easy anymore, and I love everyone. I haven't growled at anyone for months. I learned how to sit really quickly. Now I do it whenever I want something. It's like the magic word around here. We are working on lay down now, which I am learning, but I don't always like it. I have gotten used to people stopping by, and am learning to not jump on them and try to hug them.

It snowed the other day, and I'm rather unimpressed. Mom got up really early because she wanted to see my reaction to snow. Well, she was a bit disappointed because I was not happy. I tiptoed outside just because I had to pee really bad, but I ran back in and sulked. I'm definitely a warm weather dog.

That's all for now, it's time for my walk. Thanks for stopping by.
