I had lost Emma, my 5 year old Golden to cancer on January 7th,2003. My husband saw an ad in the Pennysaver for Golden puppies and two days later, I came home with Gracie. We never expected her to replace Emma, but she's found her very own place in our hearts with her sense of humor and optimistic outlook.

Bio:
Gracie was conceived through the modern miracle of artificial insemination. Her breeder wanted to revive a line of his mother's (also a breeder) dogs. Luckily, the sperm of one of the offspring had been frozen. So, my dog's father has been dead for twenty years and we sometimes refer to her as "Frankendog". Gracie has been diagnosed as epileptic and is now on phenabarbitol. She's been seizure-free for nine months so far. If anyone has information/experiences they'd like to share about epilepsy, please send a message.

It's been two years since I've had my paws on the keyboard; I guess that's about 14 in my world. I turned seven on November 17, a few weeks after we lost Grandpa to something called cancer. My owner is doing okay, but I know she misses her father very much. I miss him too. His dog Bonnie has come back to live with us. She spent the last four years with Grandpa (she lived here for her first 10) and my owner says she did important work by keeping him company. Doesn't sound much like work to me. I guess humans have a different take on companionship. In any event, I plan on continuing the "good work" of being my owner's best friend. It may not pay much, but it sure has great benefits! It's getting late, so I'll be signing off for now. Good night, sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite! ( Don't ask me what that means- I heard Grandma say it once. I miss her, too.)

Geez- It sure has been a long time since I wrote anything in my diary! Sorry about that- guess I've been kind of busy. My owner's mom died last year after being in a nursing home with dementia for two years. I accompanied my owner on every visit and I often hear her say how much that helped her get through the whole ordeal. It was easy for me- a few tricks here and there, a wide golden smile, and lots and lots of petting. All in a day's work for a good-time gal like me. Now Grandpa needs help, so we get in the car for a three hour trip every few weeks to visit. He's losing his eyesight to Macular Degeneration so he can no longer drive. My owner is doing everything she can to keep him in his home for as long as possible. I figure the least I can do is provide comic relief, by stealing Grandpa's hat and running around the house with it. He pretends to be mad, but then he breaks into a chuckle. That's when I know I've done my job.
My owner and I just got back from our morning walk. She's pretty committed to staying fit and she wants me to keep my "wasp waist" as well. Sounds like a plan to me. This morning I had the added bonus of flirting with some workmen putting up new telephone poles. Nothing like a butt-rub to start your day!
Yours in shameless hussiness,
Gracie

Happy Halloween!

Okay, so it's the day after Halloween. I think this could become my favorite holiday. I dressed up as Lois Lane (you can check it out on my webpage-last year I was a French Maid) and my friend Vegas was Superman. We went to our training school, "Positive Paws" Halloween Party last week. We didn't win anything, but I guess it would be hard for anyone to beat a pair of Malteses dressed up as a pimp and his ladyfriend. Anyhow, I love getting dressed up (the wig is alright, but I could do with out it), andnow that mom knows I'm a misses' size small, she's talking about getting me something in gold lame` for Christmas. Those other retreivers can have Orvis or L.L Bean- I'm going to the mall! Yours from the fashion front, Gracie
