January 5th 1992

Not much gets me going, except Mom. My Dad and sister often joke that she's the only person I like. I can't help it if I'm just impartial to everyone else. FOOD! I've always loved food, puppies, and squeakers!

I hate having my paws touched, being brushed, my human sister, Mom's cat, people trying to take my stuffed squeaker bones!

Favorite Toy:
I love those stuffed squeaker bones like no one's business. MAN! they're great! I also like Rawhides. Sometimes I'll play with a rope toy, but I mainly just carry them around when Mom or Dad comes home, not really play.

Favorite Food:
Anything! I LOOOOVE food! I was really over-weight at one point. It's due to my thyroid condition. But I still love food. And I really will eat anything!

Favorite Walk:
My athritis has been getting the best of me the last 3 years or so. I prefer not to walk. Unless it's to get to Mom, or get to the couch. heh.

Best Tricks:
I loathe doing tricks. But I can sit, jump (in my youthful days at least), give paw, and down. I can down with a finger snap too. Not just a command.

Arrival Story:
Bear was a dog from a breeder my Aunt had purchased 2 females from in the past. She currently had Bear's litter sister. She informed us one day that Bear's current owner was giving him back to the breeder because his testicles never dropped. Can you believe that?! He just up and gave him back! He didn't even want to show him or anything! The breeder had too many dogs as it was, and even if she DID have room, he'd be of no use to her. She said she really wanted to find him a loving home, but if she couldn't, she might have to put him to sleep, for lack of money on her part. My mother and I couldn't have that. We 'adopted' him for only $150. He was gorgeous in his youth. And he was meant to be MY dog. That is SO not how it turned out.

We brought him home when he was 7 months. he already weighed 100 pounds. That should have clued us in. Over the years Bear just kept getting bigger and bigger. Well, not taller or longer...just fatter. At his heaviest, he weighed 160 pounds. And he's only 25" tall! Our original vet had just assumed it was due to his hormones being off (no testicles), and then being neutered. When we boarded the dogs in 1999, the vet at that kennel suggested he may have a thyroid condition. Sure enough, he did! Sadly his medication then made his hair fall out. Which would explain Bear's older pictures. He did lose weight though. He's now steady at 120 pounds. My dad calls him a "Japanese Hairless" sometimes. lol. He's lived out a good 13 years so far with us, and he's pretty spoiled. ----------- UPDATE ----------- On August 25th, we had to put Bear to sleep. After 13 and a half long years with us, it was finally his time to rest. Bear is missed terribly, and things are much quieter without him here. However, we take comfort in knowing Bear is no longer in pain, he is full of energy again, is in all his full-coat, fluffy -furred glory, and running with his fellow doggie pals at the Rainbow Bridge. Godspeed Bobo, our Buddy Bear.

Just look at those older pictures of me! BOY! I was certainly a looker in my hay day! I never understood that expression much. "hay day"? Is this supposed to be a good thing? I've been around hay before. It stinks, picks, and makes me sneeze. How is a day full of it a good thing?!

Anyways, I'm pretty old these days. A whopping 13. It seems like yesterday when I was jumping over everything and terrorizing little animals. Now I don't jump ever and I play with anything that comes my way pretty much. Boy have i mellowed out!

I think my times coming to an end pretty soon. I'm getting really achey and having a harder time walking than normal. It's this darn weather. I never could stand this heat crap. It really does wreak havok on my athritis and such.

But everyone's being really nice to me lately, and they give me an extra cup of food every day. Heck! I'm not complaining. I'm not ready to go yet, but I will be. When I am, I'll let them know. But right now, I'm really enjoying this extra food thing, chewing my stuffed bones, and playing with that blasted new puppy they got.

I think someone's cooking something, I hear rustling and dishes. GOTTA GO!
