Arrival Story:
We answered an add in a paper that advertised an 18 month old white American Bulldog male good with children and pets. When we first saw Rockey he was very shy and timid and very untrusting of anyone. We decided to take him home with us and hope that he would like our little Jack Russel, Kelsey. If you saw the movie Turner and Hooch, all I can say is that we lived it for an entire year with Rockey. We later came to learn that he must have been mistreated and neglected by his former owners. He was afraid to go up or down steps and would sometimes fall down them. He did not bark or whine the first 2 weeks he was home with us. During those weeks he would shy away from us to another room and lay down where he thought we could not see him. He had severe separation anxiety and had to be medicated for the first year. He chewed our couch, desk chair, recliner, and the seat in our van. Our vet told us that he had so much attention and stimulation from us that he did know what to do and that he was probably ignored and spent long hours alone when he was with his first family. Thru the next 2 years he became a loving and trusting dog. He is very protective of his family and his territory. He lets Kelsey rule the roost and is a gentle giant when they play. He is nothing like the dog that we brought home 2 years ago. There were many times that we were ready to throw in the towel with him but in our hearts we knew that we could not give up on him. He has brought much love and laughter into our lives and we are happy that he is with us. He is very much loved and spoiled.
