Arrival Story: We lost Melon, our poodle mix, when she was almost 17 years old. We will never forget her. She was the reason we wanted another dog to love. While searching local shelters and rescues for another small dog to adopt, we accidentally found out about a litter of "missbred" puppies. Once we travelled the 3 1/2 hours to meet the 8 week old pup we would name Levi Elvis, my husband and I could not leave without him--all 2.4 lbs of him!

I sure had fun at the annual Animals on Broadway event put on by ARF in the lovely city of Walnut Creek. It is an event which celebrates pets and where rescue organizations can bring adoptees waiting for forever homes. It was really hot outside, but there was plenty of water for we canines to drink and dunk in! Mom dressed me scantily in a bandana and I wore my sunglasses a bit. I entered the "Cutest Beg" contest and despite several very competent beggin' dogs, I was chosen by a team of worthy child-judges and won a bag of biscuits! I met another poodle mix named Chibi, who was quite breathtakingly beautiful! She was very young and didn't quite get her beg completed, but mom thought she might win anyway because she was pretty good and also strikingly beautiful.
I also entered the Silliest Pet Trick contest and thanks to the opinion of another group of kiddie judges I won the prize. I pushed my Big Wheel around the stage. Mom was anxious because I might not push it over the seams of the stage, but I did! An aussie jumped on the back of his owner and stayed there while the owner walked around bent over a little bit--Mom and I thought that was a darn good trick too. Mom donated to ARF too, because this is such a fun and worthwhile event.
There were many dog breeds and mixes and fun and caring people and vendors too. There were lots of dogs for adoption. Mom's favorites were a tiny senior Border Collie fostered by ARF and the stately Pugs fostered by Pug Rescue, but there were many other great pets for adoption.
Mom loved all the doggies competing for best dressed. The winners were 2 tiny Chihuahuas dressed in Minnie Mice, along with their owners--all polka-dotta, blinged and mouse eared really cute! She loved them, but thought a lady who had dressed up her Boston Terriors in what looked like original, elegant hippy costumes was severely under-rated. The only thing lacking was the kid factor, mom said, cuz the Boston's sparkly costumes were fantastic and sooo creative. I think being a chihuahua in this contest is a plus, too, BOL!
