Likes: Mommy!! I plan to get an "I Love Mom" tattoo someday. I also love my Grandma and brother Braxton. Oh, and Poodles! I go crazy when I see one. Lastly, I must have at least one toy and one chew next to me at all times.
Pet-Peeves: I hate when Mom is out of site (we both suffer from a little separation anxiety). It also annoys me when strangers invade my space. Why the heck do they think I want their hand in my face? I don't know where it's been! Oddly, I will give strangers kisses.
Favorite Toy: I love my 3ft plush snake "Dirty" that I drag everywhere, even outside.
Favorite Food: Breakfast: Eggs with sausage (Natural Balance Pet Food Rolls) and parmesan cheese. Lunch or dinner: Chicken breast or ground beef, brown rice, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, garlic and feta cheese. Dessert: Cheesecake.
Favorite Walk: Anywhere, especially when I see a Poodle.
Best Tricks: I can running like the wind, pee on unsuspecting individuals, and use Mom's shirt as a napkin after I eat. I have a little OCD, so I must immediately "clean up" (eat) any food outside of my bowl. Yet, the food in my bowl may sit for hours before I eat it.
Arrival Story: Jack is a very special boy. When he joined our family, he was 10 weeks old and 12 ounces. When he would try to stand, he would fall forward on his head. He didn't even try to walk. His breeder knew he was a very sick puppy and decided to stop feeding him and "let nature take it's course." By chance, I found out about Jack and went to meet him. I was reluctant to bring him home as I had just lost my Jack Russell Terrier who I had grown up with and immediately knew this puppy may not live. I just couldn't leave him there so I brought him home. Over the next several months, Jack's health issues were diagnosed, one by one, and each veterinarian gave him a poor prognosis. Jack's many health issues, including hydrocephalus (water on the brain), a heart defect, a severe spinal deformity, a soft pallet, have not slowed him down a bit. In fact, Jack is the leader of his pack and a total alpha dog!
Bio: Jack is not available for adoption. He is the king of Jack's Castle and founder of Jack's Angels, a local companion animal rescue organization. Often times, people who meet our adoptable pets decide that since our pets are all fostered in loving homes that they would rather adopt a pet currently ask risk of euthanasia.
What many people are not aware of is that adopting a pet from a no-kill shelter or rescue organization IS actually saving a life. Every time a pet is adopted it opens up a space for another needy pet.
In our case, each adoption means a needy pet from a shelter or another less than ideal situation, can be accepted into our adoption program and one of our foster homes. Most often the pets come from neglectful situations where a foster home environment is their only hope.
Without the flow of adoptions, we quickly become maxed out and are forced to stop accepting new pets into our adoption program. Pets which will most likely be euthanized.
Yes, it's true! The REAL holiday today is MY 5th Birthday. Mom got all mushy on me today because she feels like I am growing up too fast. She does this EVERY year.
Today, I will be showered with toys, treats, and cake. Not just any cake. Cheese cake!! Yes, I get cheese cake on my birthday. I am not into treats made for us canines so dog bakery cakes haven't pleased me in the past but boy do I love cheesecake!!
Anyway, it's time for me to go celebrate this biggest day of the year.
Hello ladies and gentleman too, I guess. I am King Jack of Jack's Castle and also Jack's Fur Angels of Texas, an Austin, TX pet rescue organization.
Once, long ago, I was a small helpless and sickly puppy with an uncertain future. Well, that's the past and I am not looking back. I now lead a more happy and full life than any pupper I know and I know many.
As you can see, I share my home with a bunch of other animals, including cats, ferrets, and of course other dogs. Most of them are foster animals whose "rags to riches" stories are still in the making.
Recently, we moved into a 3,000 square foot home on an acre to help accommodate our rescue's needs. In addition, we are remodeling the workshop building to transform it into a small shelter to house more homeless pets.
There is never a dull moment here and things can get very hectic at times but I take it with ease. I look forward to meeting lots of puppers of dogster.
