Arrival Story:
I adopted Jeffrey in 2002 for my best friend, Kevin. Kevin knew he was expecting a dog and prepared for him so thoughtfully, but the roommate ended up dropping the ball and Jeffrey had to live elsewhere. I took him back, got a new owner lined up and took him to the vet for his final shots. He got so upset, he wouldn't stop wimpering, even for the employee that claimed he could calm any dog. They gave him to me and he immediately fell asleep in my arms, all 2.5 lbs of him. So we called the would-be owner, went to the pet store and the rest is history.

Jeffrey was blind and now he can see, due to a bilateral cataract replacement last year. He is in remission from Immune-mediated Thrombocytopenia and has been since Summer 2005. He has moved with his parents across the country and left the only three dogs he liked back in SC. He is such a tough guy, you'd never know he was only 18 lbs!

well, i had my surgery yesterday and i can already see! they implanted new lenses into my eyeballs and i am an expert at following mommy's fingers around. now she can't get away with stuff, like eating quietly, because i can see her!
had my one-day follow-up and the doc says everything looked great. i think he didn't understand that mommy and i couldn't do this sooner b/c i was so sick over the summer. my cataracts were pretty advanced after my illness (IMT) that the surgery was a little more difficult than normal for him to perform. nonetheless, all is well and i can see.
also get into a lot of wrestling matches with mommy b/c she has to give me three eyedrops three times a day. i never win, tho!
take care, everyone! i'll let you know when i get 20/20 vision!

it's just five days until my eyes will be repaired. hopefully, that will mean a lifetime of not bumping into deck furniture and cyclone fences! wish me luck!

i went to the opthamologist yesterday and I'M A CANDIDATE FOR SURGERY!
however, i am pushing the line with the severity of my cataracts, so i have to act fast. the doc said i was 95% blind and wouldn't hold on to the 5% much longer.
now it's a matter of where to have the surgery.
mommy was so sad to learn how blind i was, but happy i was a candidate.
today, she kept following me around telling me how extra special i was b/c i coudn't see, but didn't bump into anything.
the vet said i was intuitive. i mean, duh! you learn to know when mommy's looking at you and when she opens the fridge (where your prized cheese singles are!).
hope everyone's having a good day too!
