Arrival Story:
Lola was left on the streets in Chicago to fend for herself. Although she had an owner, she wasn't allowed inside and wasn't tied up/fenced. She was picked up by animal control many times and returned to her "home." One day she followed a woman to church and waited outside for her to come out. The nice woman took her to animal control, and they decided to keep her. Her owners reaction was, "I don't care, I didn't want her anyway." I found her on Petfinder. Lucky for me and lucky for Lola. She was very sick for six months. She was lame, had upper respiratory infection, puppy mites and two kinds of worms when we adopted her. She was spayed at the rescue and they repaired a hernia. When I went to get her she had her stitches. A week later we discovered at my vet that her stitches were not holding. She had surgery again. Two weeks later the same thing happened. Poor Lola had her belly cut three times in about a month. After that she had hemolytic anemia and nearly died. Next was inflamatory bowel disease. And after that she had a bout of cold agglutinin disease. Poor Lola has had several episodes of what we believe to be immune mediated poly arthritis and polymyositis. Her big episode was in March of 2005. Now we are thinking that she has lupus because of so many kinds of immune diseases, so we are very careful about no vaccinations and a homemade balanced diet. We keep her warm and avoid stress as much as possible. That means she is a wee bit spoiled.

Bio:
Lola is very inventive and likes to make decisions, maybe because she had to look out for herself for the first year of her life. We are working on convincing her she doesn't need to worry any more. She is becoming a great pet. She loves to play with other dogs and she loves children. If she would stop trying to take passports at the door she would be perfect, but then what would we have to work on? Everyone who gets to know her loves her! And she loves them back. Update Oct. 21, 06: Lola has been with us now for 2 1/2 years. She is enjoying our guests now, after her initial alarm barking. Working through the ghosts of a past life takes lots of patience and time. Her health is excellent and we hope to keep her in the wonderful condition she is in, for many years to come.

Hitting the wall

Some people think that "hitting the wall" means, that is as far as you can go. NOT SO is what I have to say!!!

Not so long ago mom and I were playing with my almost indestructible ball, which as it turns out, is very destructable. I have flunked to the smaller version since I am now "handicapped" and can't mangage the big one. So of course my main goal is to destroy. Which I have done to two of them. Now I only like the little beat up ones. Mom has bought me two newer ones and I ignore them.

Anyway, back to my dog adventure...H I T T I N G T H E W A L L. So now I play an abreviated version of the ball game. Instead of chasing a giant hard ball around the back yard or the big basement, I chase a small one, pick it up in my actual mouth, and return it to mom or dad and they throw it again, down the hall of our ranch home. I still love the GAME.

So mom and I are playing. We are going good. Mom gets the ball and passes it to me, I turn, lose my balance on the slate floor, (by now I am going 75 MPH) I hit the wall, a giant crack fills the house with noise, mom is holding her head like it is going to explode, I do not miss a beat. I get to the little plastic piece of wonder, grab it by its neck, and beat it back to mom, who I just know is ready to make another pass.

Well, when I get back to mom, I sense she is holding her breath. She looks at me strange and proclaims that there is blood coming out of my eyebrow. (I have an eyebrow?) Anyway, she looks like someone hit her or something. I just want her to throw the ball. So she does. but soon she looks at the wall were it and I collided and it does make her wonder why I am not out cold on the floor. The wall is sporting a two inch hole in it, decked in my own hair.

So I punched a hole in our wall board with my eye socket...so you want to make something of it?? I didn't think so.

Mom had to go out for a while so she left instructions with my dad that if I started having hallucinations he should call her. Hey! I am fine, so I have a hard head...want to make something of it?? I thought not! I was only tryin' to have some fun!! And that is what I do EVERYDAY!

A Windy March Day

The wind is blowin' all the leaves and the trees around so bad that I have to squint my eyes when I go out so nothin' blows into them. I am feelin' OK since mom got me on the low dose naltrexone. In fact I have calmed down a lot! And my legs don't twitch like they used to do. That was a pain but now it is gone.

My eyes are not as wierd either but they still make me dizzy. The one thing that doesn't change is my drunken-like balance. I still am runnin' into stuff and makin' a fool of myself. But I don't care. And I don't complain about a thing cuz I don't think there is anything it would change. Mom says more people should be like me, even her. So I guess I am a good 'role model' of perfect behavior in the face of difficulites :)

So Today it looks like Bizzy and me will be hangin' out in the house a lot and probably no walkies for us today since we would need lead boots to keep ourselves on the ground. So I plan on digesting my breakfast, sleeping, asking for a round of ball down the hallway and maybe hang out in the kitchen when mom decides to cook something. Bizzy and I got new "babies" yestereday and I killed one right off.

Signing off now so I can go lounge around in one of my beds or watch out the window for something exciting to go blowing down the street. Then I can bark for a while and have some FUN!!

Turkey

I know it must be almost Turkey day since I have been eatin' it lately. I LOVE TURKEY. The real reason though is because I have been sick again and mom put me on a bland diet. Last Sunday I had to go to the emergency vet cuz my fever was makin' me sick. After mom paid with her life we went home and I did not get better. So on Tuesday I had to start takin' the dreaded prednisone again cuz the word immune came into the converstation. Well by that evening I was much better, so I guess I need to finish takin' that stuff.

I hope I get more TURKEY soon though cuz I love Thanksgiving and I would really like to have a little fun soon too! Gobbble...Gobble-yummm!
