My Diary

Happy Spring~! And April is National Prevention of Cruelty- to Animals Month~

Just wanted to give a quick bark out to all my dogster friends (and love to you, Jazz-Marie, my special gal).....and remind you that the month of April is designated to help homeless, ill, and abused animals everywhere. Do what you can to help your local shelter. If you cannot be a foster family, then gather old blankets, paper towels, cleaning supplies....toys! (all dogs and cats love toys, and believe it or not, some have NEVER had any~ I myself didn't play until not long ago....wasn't sure what they were for!) kibble, bones, etc and donate it to a shelter near you. Talk to your friends and tell them how concerned you are about the dog/cat overpopulation and how insensitive, cruel and downright irresponsible it is for people to let their pets breed indiscriminately. Some people just don't understand that for every unwanted animal that lands in a shelter, usually another must die. Not all animals are adopted, despite what people think. Too many perfectly healthy and loving pets just die for no reason but being unwanted. So sad. With the economy being so tight now and many people losing their jobs, many more animals will be turned over to shelters as families are forced to tighten up their budgets.

On a happier note, today is a beautiful day in my city and I just returned from a spring walk with my fursister Emma. We got to romp in the leftover leaves from last fall, sniff all the new spring smells....then we came home to our favorite! We split a can of solidgold dog food. All is right in my world.

And, I had a special Easter Basket from my True Luv~ furlicks to you, sweet Jazz-Marie. I hope the sun is shining brightly in your town today, too.

"Getting to Know Your Pals" ..This was from my girl- Jazz-Marie's page! *swoon*

Welcome to the new edition of "2009 Get to Know Your Pals"

Copy this diary entry, and paste it into your diary. Read then delete my answers. Then you can fill in your own! Then send a rosette to 4 pals and ask them to post it in their diary!!

We can get to know our pals better!! Have fun!!

Here we GO!!

1. What color is your collar?
I wear a black leather Harley Davidson collar with studs. But I'm really a lover boy, so don't be afraid of me.

2. What kind of food do you eat?
Solid Gold Hund-N-Flocken Flakes and on Saturdays sissy Em and I split a can of Solid Gold. The salmon is my favorite!

3. What are your favorite treats?
I am very fond of BlueDogBakery biscuits, but I will take anything I can nab. Sometimes I rifle through the trash but momma says that's a bad thing. What?? Doesn't she know the goodies to be found in there??

4. Do you have a Valentine or significant other??
I am in a torrid internet affair with Jazz-Marie. I hope it isn't one-sided. We will probably never meet, but I love to dream about her. She is the prettiest girl on dogster. Just go look for yourself! She is in my friends section.

5. Do you get Table Scraps?
No, but once in a while mom will give me a lick from the last of her yogurt. She and the Boy also make us sit up and shake paw for our biscuits. It's degrading, but what can a poor dog do?

6. What is your favorite toy?
Until recently, I didn't play with toys. Now I have a knit orange dog that I love to shake up and squeak. I toss it up in the air and then nab it and do it all over again. But I don't really play tug with mom or my sister. (We probably shouldn't discuss my previous 'love' of large stuffed animals as this is a 'family site').

7. When is your Birthday?...

I, too, am a rescue so no one is really sure but we like to celebrate the month I was brought to live here in my home. I am estimated to be about 4 years old according to my vet.

8. How many times a day do you get to eat?
My mom has always practiced "free feeding" with her dogs, which means the kibble is always down. But she notices I usually eat a mouthful or 2 in the morning and then prefer to eat later at night. This ensures that I need a good long walk late, too...so mom kinda wishes she had never started that habit.

9. Do you have a favorite color?
People think I look good in browns and reds. I don't like to wear clothes so I'm just going to say I enjoy my collar and that's about it.

10. Do you hope all your pals put this in their diary?
Why yes, I hope they do!

New Dog Rescue Group!

Hi everyone!
Just thought I would bark at ya about a new rescue group dedicated to help the best dogs in the world, of course I'm yapping about RAT TERRIERS!

The group is called Rat Terrier Res Q and their website is at www.ratterrierresq.com so please take a few minutes to check them out. They are new in town so I am trying to spread the word about them.

They were founded by some people that have been doing rescue for a long time and branched off from another rescue group. My mom is one of their Home Visit Coordinators and she volunteers to help find people to do checks on potential adoptors. It is important, Mom says, to make sure that the people wanting to adopt the rat terrier are the best dog parents and that they will love and take good care of them......for FUREVER. We shelter dogs know the pain of being unwanted, unloved, and in some cases, bounced around from pillar to post. The best outcome is for a permanent home for the dog so it is important to screen people and make sure they are the right fit.

I know this group will work hard to find homes for rat terriers in need.
I am so thankful I have found mine.

A Sad Day July 7, 2007

I am very sad, as is my mom and Emma, because a very beautiful and brave friend crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge today.

She was a gorgeous rat terrier girlie that was not very old....she was going blind and her "owners" didn't want her anymore....so they took her to a shelter. It seemed they felt she would be "too much trouble".

She was spotted online and one of our dear friends fell in love with her picture and decided to adopt her. She had a new Forever Home with doggie brothers and sisters and a couple kitties, too.

She loved her toys and would chase after them and tenaciously sniff and hunt them down until she found them. She always found the one toy she went after. She had the mindset that no other toy would do! She also loved little tennis balls and would carry them about, waiting for someone to throw them for her so she could hunt them down.

Her Mom loved this little dog fiercely and could not understand how anyone could just dump her in a shelter because she was blind. She gave her heart to this beautiful little girl and I know she will carry her brave optimism with her forever.

Soon after adopting her, her Mom found out the little girl had cancer and it was untreatable. Mom was told to take her home and love her.

The brave little rat terrier enjoyed her life to the fullest. She lived a bit longer than the vet predicted. But the illness came full force and it was time for the ones that loved her to release her.

Please say a prayer or light a candle....or remember in the way that you believe, for a tiny girl that fought very hard against so many obstacles.

While we are all very sad, we also want to celebrate her life and know that she is no longer in pain.

Tonight, in her dreams, my mom will toss that ball for Nerissa over and over. It is the very least she can do to remember a spunky, brave, beautiful girl that touched all our hearts.

((((((((((((((((((((Jacki, Jodi and Nerissa))))))))))))))))))))))

The greatest honor an owner can pay to a departed dog is to get another dog, especially through adoption or rescue. When a human dies his/her friends often offer tributes in the form of donations to a charity in that person's name. How wonderful it is to save the life of a dog and give it a loving home all in honor of the departed dog. What a great memorial gift it is to the memory of that dog.

It's me, Jack...with some new pictures to look at.

If you are reading my page, please take the time to look at my photo diary. I have several more pictures to look at. Turns out I am not as camera shy as mom thought. I kinda hog the camera, in fact. BOL.

Mom is hoping go get a video of my Vonage Commercial Audition. I can sing and howl to the song "Woo Hoo".
Hollywood hasn't called yet but I expect once the word gets out, I will be in high demand.

Don't worry, I won't ever forget the little pupsters.

love, Jack (oh, thanks for looking at my pics)

Happy New Year!

I have a lot to be thankful this New Year. I have a great home, a warm bed that I let my mom sleep in with me (and Emma, too....she gets the right side of mom and I get the left) and lots of good food and treats and toys.
But there are dogs that can't say this.
I hope I don't sound like a broken record, but the one thing me and mom are passionate about (besides CHEESE!!) is dog rescue.
So please, take some time out in your busy lives to help out a shelter. Give some money or volunteer your time. Collect used leashes and collars and bowls, plastic bags, paper towels, old rugs/blankets.... and so on from your friends/neighbors. Shelters need all the help they can get.

If you are looking to add another doggy to your family, or know someone who is, please look at your local humane society or shelter.

Adopting from a shelter saves 2 lives.

And have a great 2007!

Mom is handing out the cookies so I'd better go. Emmy is a piggy and she will nab mine if I am not there to claim it.

love,
Jack

A special week for us rescued/shelter dogs!

This week (Nov. 5-11) is special. It is a week to pay homage to the kind people that work very hard to save us doggies that don't have homes. Please go to your local shelter and give them some of your time. Or some money. Anything you can. Even just a little bit helps. In fact, if lots and lots of people gave just a little bit...that would be a LOT (see, although I am a dog, I do know some math!)
Some things you can volunteer to do at your local shelter are:
~walk the dogs
~pet, play and socialize the dogs
~foster dogs that need homes, if you can!
~donate money
~donate cleaning items such as paper towels and trash bags.
~donate leashes, collars, blankets, toys.
~donate treats and/or food

If you aren't sure what you can do, just call them and ask what they need!

I know all the homeless dogs would really appreciate that you are thinking of them. All they want is to know that they are worthy and deserving of a happy life. A life that doesn't include pain, isolation, distrust, sadness, hunger, cold, and more....

okay I will get off my dogbox now, but just wanted to remind you all of this very special week.

My sis Emma is kinda jealous that SHE doesn't have a special week. (I just tell her that she is special all the time and that keeps her happy).

Love,
~~Jack~~

My Tail of Devotion for Jack

My name is Jack. I was in a shelter where I had run out of time. It didn't look good for me. A nice lady named Jill took me from there and sent me a long ways away to a family where I live now. They had a dog already, named Emma, but their hearts were big enough to love me too.
At first I was afraid to like them because I was mistreated in my young life and never really trusted that people would do right by me. After my new mom and boy began cuddling with me and giving me treats and toys to play with, I decided this must be my new home. And so here I am, and forever will I be.
Please spay and neuter your pets. Rescue a shelter dog! Consider a senior dog....their bodies may be older, but their hearts are full of love to give.
love,
Jack
