Sun Sign: Quick Bio:
 Birthday: June 1st 2004
Likes: To play with my sister Emma and to enjoy a good chewie while on mom's lap!

Pet-Peeves: I hate it when people don't spay/neuter their pets! I met so many dogs in that shelter that I know never found a home and had to go to the Rainbow Bridge because there aren't enough people to love them. So please, be responsible and do the right thing!

Favorite Toy: he loves the Fat cat kitties and chicken. Anything to play tug of war with.

Favorite Food: cheese..CHEESE!! and gnawing on Moo Choos..or free-range cow ears

Favorite Walk: Anywhere he can run free.....he likes to visit the girlie dogs across the road.

Best Tricks: Jumps up high, does the 'low crawl' across the floor on his belly when we get his leash out.

Arrival Story: Jack was pulled from a kill shelter in Kansas where he only had a day left to live. The kind lady that pulled him could not keep him as she was at her limit of foster dogs, and I agreed to either foster or adopt him. This wonderful gal had him vetted and neutered. She also arranged for him to be transported all the way to Michigan by catching a ride with another young lady that was coming here to attend a dog show.

Bio: (written by Mom) Jack was a bit shy and unsure of himself, but my son has patiently shown him that humans can be good, and he currently gives kisses and allows us to pet and snuggle with him. He is working hard on housetraining and learning to be a great little friend. He loves to play with Emma and loves to wrestle with Mike and snuggle with me. He has gained so much self confidence and fits great into our family!! Update: as of Jan. 2006 Jack has gained 2.5 # since we adopted him. He is mostly housetrained and has learned some new manners. He still doesn't like to come when he is called so he must stay on leash.

Just wanted to give a quick bark out to all my dogster friends (and love to you, Jazz-Marie, my special gal).....and remind you that the month of April is designated to help homeless, ill, and abused animals everywhere. Do what you can to help your local shelter. If you cannot be a foster family, then gather old blankets, paper towels, cleaning supplies....toys! (all dogs and cats love toys, and believe it or not, some have NEVER had any~ I myself didn't play until not long ago....wasn't sure what they were for!) kibble, bones, etc and donate it to a shelter near you. Talk to your friends and tell them how concerned you are about the dog/cat overpopulation and how insensitive, cruel and downright irresponsible it is for people to let their pets breed indiscriminately. Some people just don't understand that for every unwanted animal that lands in a shelter, usually another must die. Not all animals are adopted, despite what people think. Too many perfectly healthy and loving pets just die for no reason but being unwanted. So sad. With the economy being so tight now and many people losing their jobs, many more animals will be turned over to shelters as families are forced to tighten up their budgets.
On a happier note, today is a beautiful day in my city and I just returned from a spring walk with my fursister Emma. We got to romp in the leftover leaves from last fall, sniff all the new spring smells....then we came home to our favorite! We split a can of solidgold dog food. All is right in my world.
And, I had a special Easter Basket from my True Luv~ furlicks to you, sweet Jazz-Marie. I hope the sun is shining brightly in your town today, too.

Welcome to the new edition of "2009 Get to Know Your Pals"
Copy this diary entry, and paste it into your diary. Read then delete my answers. Then you can fill in your own! Then send a rosette to 4 pals and ask them to post it in their diary!!
We can get to know our pals better!! Have fun!!
Here we GO!!
1. What color is your collar?
I wear a black leather Harley Davidson collar with studs. But I'm really a lover boy, so don't be afraid of me.
2. What kind of food do you eat?
Solid Gold Hund-N-Flocken Flakes and on Saturdays sissy Em and I split a can of Solid Gold. The salmon is my favorite!
3. What are your favorite treats?
I am very fond of BlueDogBakery biscuits, but I will take anything I can nab. Sometimes I rifle through the trash but momma says that's a bad thing. What?? Doesn't she know the goodies to be found in there??
4. Do you have a Valentine or significant other??
I am in a torrid internet affair with Jazz-Marie. I hope it isn't one-sided. We will probably never meet, but I love to dream about her. She is the prettiest girl on dogster. Just go look for yourself! She is in my friends section.
5. Do you get Table Scraps?
No, but once in a while mom will give me a lick from the last of her yogurt. She and the Boy also make us sit up and shake paw for our biscuits. It's degrading, but what can a poor dog do?
6. What is your favorite toy?
Until recently, I didn't play with toys. Now I have a knit orange dog that I love to shake up and squeak. I toss it up in the air and then nab it and do it all over again. But I don't really play tug with mom or my sister. (We probably shouldn't discuss my previous 'love' of large stuffed animals as this is a 'family site').
7. When is your Birthday?...
I, too, am a rescue so no one is really sure but we like to celebrate the month I was brought to live here in my home. I am estimated to be about 4 years old according to my vet.
8. How many times a day do you get to eat?
My mom has always practiced "free feeding" with her dogs, which means the kibble is always down. But she notices I usually eat a mouthful or 2 in the morning and then prefer to eat later at night. This ensures that I need a good long walk late, too...so mom kinda wishes she had never started that habit.
9. Do you have a favorite color?
People think I look good in browns and reds. I don't like to wear clothes so I'm just going to say I enjoy my collar and that's about it.
10. Do you hope all your pals put this in their diary?
Why yes, I hope they do!

Hi everyone!
Just thought I would bark at ya about a new rescue group dedicated to help the best dogs in the world, of course I'm yapping about RAT TERRIERS!
The group is called Rat Terrier Res Q and their website is at www.ratterrierresq.com so please take a few minutes to check them out. They are new in town so I am trying to spread the word about them.
They were founded by some people that have been doing rescue for a long time and branched off from another rescue group. My mom is one of their Home Visit Coordinators and she volunteers to help find people to do checks on potential adoptors. It is important, Mom says, to make sure that the people wanting to adopt the rat terrier are the best dog parents and that they will love and take good care of them......for FUREVER. We shelter dogs know the pain of being unwanted, unloved, and in some cases, bounced around from pillar to post. The best outcome is for a permanent home for the dog so it is important to screen people and make sure they are the right fit.
I know this group will work hard to find homes for rat terriers in need.
I am so thankful I have found mine.
~Jack, former shelter dog and now spoiled (and grateful) bRAT
