Arrival Story:
My 2 previous dogs were a Chocolate Lab, and an Aussie, both pretty high energy breeds. I lost both dogs in 1 year. My Lab to old age, and my 3yr old Aussie to a tragic accident. Three years in to a new relationship, it was decided that it would be nice to have a dog. My partners "dream" dog was a Basset Hound. Oh my gosh I thought. I would be dealing with a whole new level of intelligence. After lots of research on the breed, I began the search. Of course I had a motive. We would get the Basset first, then I would start the search for another Aussie. We got "Molly" on Memorial Weekend 2000. My first puppy ever (my others were adopted at an older age), memories of getting up in the middle of the night with my daughters was ALL coming back. Our relationship survived puppyhood. Molly is the sweetest dog. She just loves to be loved. We never did get another pup, however when Molly was 3, she got her own cat. She and Toby play like 2 dogs. Molly is very gentle, but Toby can stand his ground. When my grandaughter was an infant and would take naps here, Molly would lay outside her door. When Ava would wake up, Molly would come and get us. It was amazing! She would also lay next to her when she was on the floor and keep the cat away. Toby the cat would never harm the baby, but Molly thought it was her job to protect. I'm sure someday there will be another dog in our lives, but for now Molly is it. By the way.... don't be fooled by the "Ho-Hum" look of a Basset.... They can run like crazy! :)
