Arrival Story:
Daisy (formerly known as Moose) was surrendered to the shelter. The person who BOUGHT her because he wanted a Neapolitan Mastiff decided she was getting too big. This person's vet record showed that Daisy weighed 58lbs when he took her to the vet. He surrendered her 3 weeks later and she weighed 54 lbs. He was feeding her ONE 8oz cup of food a day. ONE! No wonder she was losing weight. After one week at the shelter she weighed 60.7 lbs which is when we got her. She was malnourished and had a host of issues related to her poor state of health. She is 5.5 months old and now weighs 75 lbs. The funny thing is that I wasn't looking for a dog. If someone told me that I'd have a new dog I would have said they were nuts. I saw her picture on the shelter's website and didn't think much about it. That night I woke up thinking about her. I figured someone must have adopted her since she was so adorable. The next day the website still listed her as available so I went over at lunchtime and expected to find a waiting list. Nope. Ended up bringing her home that night. Since then 2 different people have told members of our family that they saw her at the shelter and were trying to adopt her but didn't connect with the right people. Yet I had no issues. Guess she was meant to live with us. She's wonderful. I love her so much. * UPDATE: 7.5 months and weighs 90 lbs. UPDATE: 8 months and weighs 95 lbs. UPDATE: almost 9 months and weighs 101.8 lbs. Hello!

I haven't written since last year.

In some ways it has been a rough year. My mom was in the hospital a lot. She had 3 brain surgeries so she was gone a lot. I hated that. I was thrilled whenever she was allowed to come home. I love her so much and she loves me.

This summer I lost my best buddy Jack. He was getting old and sick. He made it until Mom returned from the hospital. He had to leave us 2 days after she came home. It was a sad time for us all.

On a good note I got a new baby sister. Her name is Abby. At first I didn't like her at all. I spent a lot of time curling my lip and growling at her. Mom calls this my "Elvis move". Now I enjoy her and play with her all the time. She rough and tumbly...just my type.

My skin is looking pretty good. Mom continues to avoid frontline and gives me antibacterial baths. I'm currently on an oral antibiotic as well. I look good and mom says I'm soft. Yea me!

-Daisy.

I am still FURRY!!!

Mom says this is the BEST September!!!

Usually I am a balding, crusty, smelly mess by the time September rolls around.

This year I am so healthy that I actually blew my coat for the first time ever!!!

I don't have bald spots!

Mom thinks it is a combination of things.

1. She kept me OUT of the bushes. I was scratching in them when there was still snow on the ground and mom saw a rash starting.

2. antibiotics and benadryl to control skin infection and itching.

3. no frontline....not only on me but none for Jack, Jilly, or our kitties. Mom figures that if I share bedding with them then I"m exposed to the chemicals.

4. Everyone got a bath at least once a week. It cuts down on irritants that we might carry in on our fur and I got have a special antibacterial shampoo from the vet.

5. making sure I'm really dry after bath time and playing in the rain.

Mom tried a bit of frontline a few weeks ago. I immediately started itching so everyone got a bath the next day. I felt so much better once that stuff was off my skin. I was still a little itchy and the skin around my nose was inflamed. Luckily this all went away in a couple days.

So....yea me!!!!

Does a dog poop at the vet?

If you are ME then the answer is YES!

My eye is all boogery again so mom took me to the vet today.
The good news is that I did NOT poop in mom's car.
The bad news is that I did poop right on the vet's scale.
So we now know that I can poop a 1/2 pound poop!

I also gained some weight from my last visit. After the tech cleaned up my mess I got on the scale again and weighed in at 155.7 pounds. I'm still very lean and you can see my ribs at times so it must just be that I'm filling out.

I have to have drops in my eye 3 times a day for 2 weeks.
I'm still taking antibiotics twice a day and benadryl 3 times a day in an effort to keep me from losing my fur due to allergies.

Mom says that I'm a mess but she still loves me.
