Arrival Story:
Frankie came into my life at around 18 months of age and I was his 5th home. Frankie is obsessed with my compost bin and spends a minimum of 4-5 hours a day licking it. Otherwise he is a typical male dog: he loves to chase motorcycles, rabbits and humping his sister, Tavi. Full of energy outside, Frankie is unusual in that he is calm indoors and loves to follow me when I'm home and will snuggle at my side whenever he gets a chance.

I adopted Frankie from Northern California Jack Russell Rescue. This organization is outstanding and run by a dedicated group of volunteers. They take in about two rescues per week, all ages and types of Jacks.

Frankie gets arrested!!!

This is Frankie's mom writing this diary entry. Frankie is in the dog house because he was a very bad boy. Seems that the house inspector left the side gate open and Frankie decided to make a run for it. Normally when he escapes, he returns after 10-15 minutes. I was not home and did not return for several hours and discovered Frankie had left at 12 noon and it was now 5 pm and he still wasn't home. Panicked, I knocked on doors to ask my neighbors to see if they had spotted him. Turns out, one neighbor did witness what happened.

Someone apparantly had called the dog catcher to round up a loose boxer. At 1:30 pm, they chased the boxer onto my street when Frankie appeared and began to play with the boxer. The dog catcher caught Frank first and then used him as "bait" to catch the boxer. It worked. Even though Frankie was tagged and licensed, the dog catcher didn't feel the need to walk 15 feet over to my house and ring my bell. Instead he placed Frankie along with the boxer on the truck and off he went.

Upon learning of this, I immediately took off for the Humane Society to bail Frankie out. When I got there, they had no record of Frankie's arrest. To say that I had a significant emotional experience as a result would be an understatement. I insisted they call all their dog catchers to find out which truck he was on. I was resisted at first, but then they complied, and lo and behold, Frankie was still on the truck after 3 hours. It took another 30 minutes for the Animal Control Officer to arrive at the center with Frankie who they released him to my custody and they did not charge me any fines.

I was so happy to get him safely home.

My First Rat

I'm so proud. I got me my first rat last week! Can you believe that I've had to remind mom to write this brag for me! She is so quick to brag about my sisters (boring), but this is far bigger and better than anything they've done!

Mom says I actually directly harm the rat, but I beg to differ. I found this rat out in the back shed a couple of weeks ago and I never let him get any peace. It didn't take long, but I cornerd this rat in the utility shelf and I stayed there as long as mom would let me. Sometimes she'd get me to come in for dinner, but I resisted as long as I could! I tried to bark at the rat, but mom makes me wear this darn collar that stops me from barking all the time--that's mean of her cuz I think I have a nice bark if do say so myself. Mom actually calls it an annoying yap, but what does she know!

Anyway, MY rat died cuz mom says I stressed it to death. She also says that Jack Russells should know how to kill rats, but somehow I didn't get the instincts for killing or something like that. But she still said I still killed it by being persistent. Yup, that's me, I'm persistent and I tried never to let this rat have a free moment. I wanted mom to leave the rat in the shed so I could visit him but, can you believe it, she scooped him up in that pooper scooper she has (can you believe that she scoops up our poop everyday and saves it in a bin--she must have a poop fetish) and she dumped MY rat in that poop pile. How rude can you get!!!! Anyway, I'm very proud of my rat and mom says she's very proud of me too.

Got to go for a car ride today!

I'm so excited. Mommie picked ME!, yes ME! to go for a car ride today. Usually I'm the one who sees my sisters leave in the car and I get left behind. It's not fair. But today, glory be, I got to go and I got to go by myself!

Mom says I rarely go in the car cuz I get car sick. I know she tried to acclimate me to the car, but I just get too scared. But I was real good today and I didn't throw up once. Mom was real happy with me. However, she did trick me. She told me we were going to the pet store. We did pull up at the pet store, but we got line in behind a bunch of other doggies. I was bigger than most of them. Ya see, I'm the munchkin at home as my two sisters are much bigger than me. Then when Mummie finished with being in line, we went into the pet store and instead of taking me to eat some treats, she took me to the evil man wearing a lab coat and he was holding two very large needles. This evil man took my blood, then shot me full of something else next. But I was a good boy. I didn't yelp once and I stood real still. Fortunately, it was quick and mom took me to where the treats were. I got to eat a biscuit right out of the box that was near the floor. Aren't I cool.

Then, mommie drove to store nearby and let me go in. It said Best Buy on the outside, and all the folks inside scratched my ears, and said nice things to me. I had fun.

Then I got to sit in mommies lap while she drove home and I got to return to my compost bin. Yummie, it tastes so good.

Wonder when Mom will let me go again!
