Arrival Story:
Katie, my fawn brindle Greyhound, spent the first 6 years of her life in training for and racing. When she retired from the track things didn’t go well. She went through 4 or 5 foster homes and had 2 failed adoptions. She finally found her forever home with us when I mentioned to my friend Havah [also our vet] I was looking for a friend for our Presa Canario Ranger. He is a ruby brindle and I wanted another brindle. - We didn’t know when we got Kates that she had several physical problems including a severe chronic ear infection. But, thanks to Havah we went to a specialist in Tucson and got it taken care of. -For several months she was very depressed and didn’t trust us, who could blame her? But, the whole family, well not the 5cats, but Ranger & I threw ourselves into winning her over by loving her and it worked. Now she is a healthy happy girl who has a delightful impish personality.

Bio:
Katie has over come a lot in her life. And as time goes by she gets happier and more at ease with us. She is friendly, in a remote way, with strangers and other dogs. But, she always reserves part of herself with everyone but me. We are both introverts and fit together well. I adore and madly love my "never met a stranger" extrovert Ranger, but Katie is my doggy soul mate.- Kates has an on going battle with "Daddy" about the couch. We got a new leather couch and loveseat and Chris doesn’t want dogs on them. It's a draw. When he is at work she owns the couch when he's home she sleeps on dog beds. The first thing he does when he walks in the door before he even looks is say “Katie get off the couch". My money is on the Greyhound.- Greyhounds are special dogs and make wonderful companions for other dogs, people, and sometimes cats. Find out more about Greyhounds at http://www.greyhoundgang.org/ .

Things are going pretty well. Mom is working too much [ok not much she is mostly retired], but then any is too much for me. Ernie is a good companion and we all love him a lot. He is goofy and a bit of a clown and makes us laugh. He and mom are at war because he chews stuff when she is gone. It's just separation anxiety 'cause he doesn't do it when she is here, where I might add she belongs. But, it's a gentle war and they both are stubborn as bricks so it'll probably be going on for a long time.

Ernie and other things

Well, it's been a long time since I have made and entry in my diary and quite a bit has happened. Ernie is ok. Ranger and I have accepted him finally as member in good standing fo the family. He is a good comapanion on desert walks and hiking in the mountains.

The cats are all doing well. Charlie has type II diabetes and had to have a change in Diet he is eating something called M/D for felines. It's supposed to help him nutritionally. He is only 13 so he has a long way to go on his contract. All of the cats have a 20 year contract with Mom after that they can either re-negociate or die. Because we are her first ever dogs she doesn't know what to make us sign up for so we're are just supposed to stay as long as we possibly can.

Enough for now the sun is shining, it's warm and Mom is going out in the backyard and since she isn't allowed out there by herself I have to run.

Dog Fight

A couple of days ago Ranger and Ernie got into over food. Now I personally have heard mom's friends tell her to never try and stop a dog fight except maybe with a hose or something, but never get personally involved. Not mom. She grabbed each of them by the collar and snatched them apart. That may not sound like much by Ernie weighs 91 lbs. and Ranger weighs 81 lbs. and she jerked them apart like they were dolls. Go, mom. Then she raised cain with both of them. I have noticed they have been a lot more polite to each other at meal times. :) I'm a perfect lady and would stoop to arguing over food.
