My husband picked Smaug because he liked the pattern on the puppy's face. Bio: Smaug suffered from hip displasia but in spite of this he was the happiest dog I've ever known.
On 6 June 2010, we had to put him down following an accident in which he broke his knee. The vet told us that his displasia was so bad that even if we had the knee repaired, Smaug would most probably just break the other knee. In other words, he was not going to have a good life.
