As it turns out, Littermates, we were able to get the Mars Express bus out of the ditch and back on the road with far less trouble than I had feared.
Some of the flewsies and I made the trip to Cholame in my pink Cadillac to pay tribute to James Dean, to salvage the bus if possible, and to see what could be done for any survivors remaining in the area. The photo above shows yours truly with flewsies Dolly and Penelope (and the salvaged bus, of course). Flewsie Midnight Star took the picture. We wanted to get her in-frame and have one of the many James-Dean-death-spot pilgrims operate the camera. But Star is apparently self-conscious about her relatively modest flews*.
We left a wreath on the James-Dean-death-spot memorial (right outside one of the worst hamburger joints you’d never want to eat in, even if the restrooms were working).
And salvaging the bus was really just a matter of hosing out the interior thoroughly enough to make it habitable again and then driving the bus out of the ditch.
We were unable, however, to locate any bus-crash survivors. Locals claim that some of them have gone feral and are still in the general vicinity, but we were unable to locate any of them. Qué gran lástima! as our neighbors on both sides of the border say.
*Which is why she will no doubt be excited about an upcoming product announcement from Dexcorp.
