Happy Canada D'eh!

Tonight Biscuit and I went for a walk with Mommy and Daddy and went to the fair grounds. Usually there's no one there, but tonight there were tons of people! And lots of little kids. It was beautiful out - not too hot and the smell of ribs and hot dogs wafted on the breeze.

Then Mommy sat on the grass and Daddy stood with Biscuit and we waited a while. People were sitting all around us. Then suddenly there were all these bangs and popping noises! It scared me and I hid behind Mommy, but when I peeked over her shoulder, there were so many pretty lights in the air! Mommy put her arm around me and told me it was okay and gave me cookies. Daddy didn't look scared either, so we just sat and watched the pretty lights in the sky. I didn't mind the little pops, but the big bangs made me a bit nervous. It was pretty fun though watching the lights and having Mommy hug me.

Oh! And on the way home, a lady stopped and said I was beautiful and she pet me. I got the attention intstead of Biscuit! I was so happy. Usually people are afraid of me because I'm a big black dog or they pay attention to Biscuit because she's smaller.

This morning Mommy woke up to a call from a very excited Jovi.

Sure enough, there's my mug on the front page! Dude, I'm DOTD!!

Wow, I sure am thrilled. Thanks very much HQ! And thanks to all my friends for all the love they've been sending me. *hugs*

This has been a great weekend. First, Mom buys me a new red Kong ball and some liver treats and now this! Mom says she's going to make me something special for dinner tonight to celebrate. I hope it's steak!!!




It's my Birthday

Well today Harley and I turn three!!

The people took Biscuit and I to McDonald's and I got half an ice cream sundae and TWO double cheeseburgers!! It was great! Then we went for a truck ride and ended up at PetsMart where I met some other dogs and got to pick out whatever I wanted! I got a HUGE roasted, basted bone that's bigger than Biscuit! She got a little one (which I ate on her later).

Mommy says that Grandma is baking me my own meatloaf cake and that she's bringing me presents this weekend!

To make it even better, I found out today that I won the Mr. Pawniverse 2007 competition and the Canada Day Photoshopped Contest! Woo hoo!

But the best part is all the love I got from my friends.

Thanks to everyone who sent me a rosette or star! You guys rock!

3. I go on a truck ride every weekend morning with my people so that we can find squirrels for me to bark at. We call it squirrel hunting.

4. I am afraid of sheep. Sad, but true.

5. Even though I am 4 times bigger, Biscuit is the boss of me. I am very happy not being the leader.

6. I know 25 commands and will do pretty much anything you ask for a cookie.

40 Zealies!

Recently the Moosehead Bar sponsored a contest for our Inspiration Dogster week. Actually, it was two contests, but the one I want to mention is the "What Would You Do With 40 Zealies" contest.

We asked members to write about the dog (real or fictional, but not their own) that inspired them the most and why. The reward for best story at 40 zealies, which were generously donated (Thanks big guy!). 2nd Place received a Star from myself, 3rd received two rosettes. There was also a story that was so good that we gave an Honourable Mention and a rosette.

The winner of the grand prize was Ginger.

Totally Pawesome Chcolate Chip Cookies!

These have to be the best chocolate chip cookies ever! They're so easy to make, but they're incredible. Mommy used vanilla-infused white sugar to make them and it was amazing! To make the sugar, take a jar and pour sugar in so it's half-full. Then put in a 3 inch long vanilla bean. Fill rest of jar with sugar. Close tightly and then wait a week. The sugar is amazing for baking and in hot drinks!

1 cup butter flavored shortening
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk chocolate chips


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter flavored shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla .Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, fold in the chocolate chips. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until light brown. Note: I found I needed a little longer than this with a regular oven. If you have a convection oven, then 350 F for 10 minutes is perfect. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.


New Friend

Tonight when Mommy got back from the park with Biscuit (she couldn't take both of us), we went for a long walk through town, just her and me. I knew that this was special because there was no Biscuit and no Daddy. Just Mommy and me. So I was on my best behaviour! I didn't tug at all and walked at a good pace right next to Mommy. She was so impressed with me! She thought maybe I was some other dog. BOL. Mommy was able to walk me with only her left hand holding the leash!

On the way home we saw a lady sitting on her porch with her white American Bull Terrier. I thought the dog was pretty cool looking, so I begged Mommy to let me meet her. She is just under a year old and her name is Aries. She is white with a little black circle on her bum. I think she's very pretty. She liked me too and wrestled with me a little and even tugged on my lip, which I just love! Mommy and the lady, Raven, talked for like an hour, even though they'd just met. They talked about dogs and the new dog park that's opening. We're all very excited, especially now that we know someone in the neighbourhood will bring their dog so we can go together. I love pitties and bull terriers, so I can't wait to wrestle with Aries at the park!

Biscuit may have gotten to go to the park without me, but I made a new friend!

My Tail of Devotion for Dylan

Dylan, what a joy you are. Your Daddy picked you out of a pack of squiggling chubby little puppies and held you close to his chest and beamed. I knew he was sold. Who could resist that sweet face with the big, sad brown eyes? You are so much fun to have, even when you're being naughty. You approach everything in life with a fun attitude and see everything as a game to be played. If you were a person, you would be the class clown. With a goofy look on your face and a tail that wags so hard it threatens to knock off balance, you are able to brighten any day. It is so much fun to watch you play with your sister Biscuit. Even though you are 4 times bigger than she is, you seem to understand her need to be the boss and you stand there patiently, grinning, while she "beats you up." Your love of cookies and treats seems never ending, but you are such a good boy that we're happy to buy them for you by the bucket full. When you snuggle at night with your Daddy, resting your head on his chest and looking up adoringly at him while he strokes your head, I realize that we made a great choice in bringing you home.

Mommy, did you say cookies? Could you rub my belly please? If you do, I promise I'll be good!

Storm's Refreshing Rain Punch

Storm has given us a great recipe for a new drink, which we are featuring from now on in our Moosehead Bar menu in Crushes. I thought I would take this opportunity to share it with everyone (and also put it somewhere so I don't forget how to make it!). Thanks for sharing Storm!

2 two-liters of fruit punch
1 two-liter of Sprite (7-UP would work, too)
1 container of orange sherbert
1 ice-cream scoop
1 HUGE bowl
1 ladle
1 bundt cake pan

I call this, "Storm's Refreshing Rain Punch" I'll explain what I'm doing while I am making it:

First, I'm pouring one full two-liter and one half of a two-liter of fruit punch into the bowl - but I'm being very careful so that I don't splash my white fur! Fruit punch can stain, after all.

Now I'm pouring the two-liter of Sprite in as well.

I'm going to take the last half of this two-liter of fruit punch and pour it into a container that I can put in the freezer. I like to use what it called a bundt cake pan because it makes a pretty ring when liquid is frozen in it. I'm sticking it in the freezer now...

...but I actually snuck in last night and froze one already! I'll take that out of the freezer now and set it on the counter so that it melts just enough to get out of the bundt cake pan.

Now I'm going to scoop some of the orange sherbert into the huge bowl with the fruit punch and Sprite in it. For a bowl this size, I'll put somewhere around 3-5 BIG scoops in - but it really depends on how much you like sherbert!

Finally, I'm going to (carefully!) drop our frozen fruit punch ring into the bowl. This will keep the punch cool for a long time!

I'm going to gently stir it with this ladle now so that the sherbert kind of mixes in with the punch. It's fun to have scoops of sherbert floating in it, though, so I'm not going to stir it in entirely! It will slowly dissolve until you have a nice, fruity, bubbly, and smooth punch that My Person claims was always a big hit at her parties.
