Lexi's DNA Test!

Well, we got my DNA test back and...... I'm a dog!

Actually, the DNA test came back without any positive "primary" breed, meaning that I do not have 50% or more DNA from a specific breed. I do, however, have a "secondary" breed match to the German Shorthaired Pointer breed. I found that interesting. I certainly have the pointing thing down pretty instinctively. I can point a squirrel or chipmunk out of any tree!

I also had one "in the mix" breed and that one was the Shetland Sheepdog! I've actually had a few Sheltie breeders and owners try to tell me that they thought I had to be part Sheltie. :)

Of course, at first glance I doubt anyone would have guessed those two breeds, but hey... Who would guess some of the heritage that mom's got in her? (You'd be surprised!) At the moment they can only trace 38 of America's most popular breeds, so that may also limit the findings. (I truly thought that there'd be some golden retriever or chow chow in there!)

I be sportin' a peg leg!

So this weekend I was just being myself - running around really fast and looking cute while doing it - when all of a sudden my people swarmed around me. Supposedly I was limping. I think they're nuts - I don't notice anything! When mom got back home later she really pampered me and massaged my leg. I will never pass up a pampering, so I let her do it! Well, I guess I haven't stopped limping (I have 4 legs, what does it matter if I hold one up while I run?!) so mom took me to the vet yesterday. That crazy man put this big red wrap on my leg! How is that supposed to help me sneak up on those chipmunks?! Anyhow, mom can't stop laughing at me. She says I look and sound like a pirate with a peg leg. Hmph. At least she keeps cuddling me a lot! I guess I'm supposed to put up with this for 4 to 6 weeks... Cuddling isn't so bad...

P.S. Mom ordered me a DNA test a few weeks ago to see what breeds I'm "made up of"... Should be interesting to finally know something about my dad!!

Goodnight Keisha

Today mom and I went to grandma's house to visit lots of family that had come together for Christmas. I even got to make a new friend - a little puppy named Daisy!

But then we got a phone call late in the evening. Keisha had just passed away. Some family drove us home and mom went outside with everyone else. They had a burial for our dear friend Keisha. She was simply the nicest girl you could ever know. Goodnight Keisha - you'll be missed!

I'm So Good!

So, mom went away for a few days to "the keys". I'm confused, because I thought that keys were those things she starts the car with. Whatever. Well she came back the other night and I totally showed her what's up! I totally ignored her while she tried to cuddle and dote on me. That's what she gets for leaving ME! Anyhow, the next morning she put the special collar on that means we were gonna go do some work. (I'm not "allowed" be fun while we're working - puh!) So we went to this place where they made us do all kinds of stuff and in the end they said I was a certified Canine Good Citizen! WOOHOO! I'm not even totally sure what it all means, but I rock!

April is Boring.

What a boring month April has been! Our CGC classes are over, so now I don't have those to look forward too. Mom is being iffy about the whole agility thing too. She says its a lot of driving around, but I don't mind, as long as I get to sniff out the window! Aaaaand it has been really rainy and a little chilly. My wussy mom doesn't do so well in that kind of weather. She wants something called "tropical" weather where its all warm - yuck! Give me some nice, deep snow to romp in! Oh yeah... One cool thing happened this month! I got to see a "turkey". I don't have any idea what that thing was, but it was big! I wonder if it would play with me, like the chipmunks do?

Wooooooooooo!

Mom took me to the beach on Sunday!! It was so awesome! We went over to the lake side of Presque Isle and saw the ice dunes that had formed. I went NUTS! All that cold, fishy wind was making me so happy that I was doing my famous "butt run" all over the beach - I couldn't control myself! Then we went walking down the path and I got to meet some other dogs and this huge white bird that wanted to eat me. Luckily he stayed in the water! But the whole trip didn't last too long, because mom said she couldn't even feel her own legs. I guess humans don't do well when the temperature gets below freezing - wimps! I LOVE the cold winter wind! Ahhh... I can't wait until we can go again!

Santa Paws Visited!

I got a visit from Santa Paws! He left me quite a full stocking, which actually ended up contributing to a little "present" I left on grandma's floor. I was so ashamed of puking in front of the family! Its their fault, though... They were the ones who kept giving me stuff to eat! All-in-all it was actually quite a nice day and I even got to meet a few more people than I thought! So, to all our friends out there, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Yippee!

Mom & I are very excited and proud! Barrrroooooo! Now, if I could only get her to put her snow clothes on and go outside to play...

And here I was, getting all jealous of Sunny just a few weeks ago! Now I'm a finalist in a photo contest! I'm so excited my tail's wagging a hundred times a minute! Thanks to everyone who voted! And by the way, it says (under that photo) that I was upset with mom now that she makes me wear a harness in the car... Well, I'm not so upset anymore. Now, when I get the harness put on, I know I'm going somewhere in the car and that's all good by me! Barrrooooo!

What a Week!

So, here I am thinking everything is hunky-dory when SUNNY, my cat, gets "Cat of the Day" on Catster! Gees! Then, when the humans came home with this "treadmill" thing, I tried SO hard to understand it. Well, Sunny jumped right up and was walking her little heart out on the thing. I thought it was scary, then this CAT shows me up! Who does she think she is? You know what I like doing sometimes? Just when Sunny falls asleep on the very top of the leather recliner, I like to jump on, then off, real fast. It rocks the chair and she hates it! Maybe I'll do that to her later. Eh... Maybe I shouldn't... She's getting pretty old and maaaaaybe she deserved to get "Cat of the Day". She does like to snuggle with me, she purrs a lot when I'm around and she cheers me on while I chase the chippies. I guess she's alright. Maybe I'll go outside and tease the chipmunks instead. Cats aren't all that bad.
