 Quick Bio:
| -mutt | -pound dog | -dog rescue | |
Likes: More than anything, Yoshi loves running on grass or dirt or anything other than the usual asphalt and concrete under her feet. An added bonus is snow. She also adores tearing apart plush toys, and removing every last piece of fuzz from them.

Pet-Peeves: She can't stand rain, or the weird crazy guy in the neighborhood who always lunges at her. As her owner, I can't stand this guy, either.

Favorite Toy: She loves her big fluffy bear. It's the only stuffed toy she didn't tear to shreds within three minutes. Probably because it's about the same size as she is.

Favorite Food: Anything, especially if it's on the sidewalk and looks disgusting.

Favorite Walk: Promontory Point

Best Tricks: She sits up and says "please," which is so dang adorable it makes you want to cry.

Arrival Story: I had wanted a dog for years, but wasn't sure how hard it would be having one in NYC. Finally, my girlfriend Sara bought me the Urbanhound book and helped convince me to go for it. We took the train to North Shore Animal League, on Long Island, and had no intention of coming home with a dog that day. But then we spotted a little speckled mutt and asked to take her out. She was so small and scared, and had a big tumor on her side, and a little tag that said she had an irregular heartbeat. So we asked how serious all of this would be, and they said probably not too bad, so we took her home. They put her in a little cardboard box, and on the train home, she fell asleep with her chin on my hand. There was no going back after that. She's now a year and a half old, about 20 pounds bigger, no more tumors or irregular heartbeats, but still loves falling asleep leaning up against us.

Bio: The shelter told us she came all the way from Tennessee. We got her when she was 9 weeks old, and we think she wasn't weaned until 8 weeks, so that must have been one heck of a week -- a trip from Tennessee to New York, a major surgery (she was spayed the day before I got her) and a new home. In the fall of 2004, we moved to Chicago, which was a revelation for Yoshi, because she never dreamed it was possible to live near so many wide open stretches of grass. She loves her new home, although she does miss her NYC dogrun buddies.
