Arrival Story:
My wife and I had always wanted a third dog (we had 2 Pomeranians for years) but we were living in apartments and never had room. When we finally bought our house and had settled in, my wife saw a report in the local paper that the Animal Protection people had busted a bad puppy mill and taken the puppies to the SPCA to be adopted. There were Pomeranian puppies in the bunch so my wife started going to the SPCA every other day waiting for the Pom's to become available. Now I love Pom's but I have always hankered after a bigger dog, my wife was aware of this, but she liked the Pom's so much I was willing to go along with her decision to get one of the puppies (I had such fond memories of when our adult Pom's were little.) Well after one of these trips to the SPCA she called me. She said " I don't really want to tell you this, but there is the cutest young female German Shepherd here and I think you need to go and take a look at her." After work that day we went up to the shelter and saw Tasha in a run with two other dogs. She was young and timid, sitting at the back of the run and the other two dogs would not let her come up to the gate. But if you looked at her and talked to her, she would cock her head to one side like she knew you were talking to her. We had the attendant get her out of the run so we could meet her and play with her. She was shy but very affectionate, yet moving up to the guardianship of a big dog was a step I wasn't sure I was ready to take. So we left the shelter and went to a local bar to have a drink and talk about it, but while we were sitting there, I could feel the bond with Tasha had formed already and I couldn't leave my dog in that shelter a minute longer. We went directly back there and adopted her and Tasha has been a constant loyal companion and source of happiness ever since.

Bio:
We suspect that Tasha was someones pet who got seperated from her home during the HUGE floods that affected Houston during tropical storm Allison in the spring of 2001. Tasha was only 10 months old when we found her at the SPCA but she had already whelped a litter, which implied she had been loose for quite a while. When she was in our home though she was pretty much already house trained and was passing familar with house rules. I am sorry for the family that lost this puppy as she is such a wonderful dog. She is my dog now, however, and she brings so much happiness to my house. We are constantly glad to have her. She has got over her shyness and has no problem schooling our much bigger American Bulldog, Max, when he annoys her. She is also a great guard dog. //update April 27, 2005 While engaging in some random dog related web surfing I came across a web site discussing the differences between GSD's and Malinois'. A quick perusal of the site seemed to indicate that Tasha was a Mal or mostly Mal mix. I e-mailed one of the breeders some pictures of Tasha and the response was that Tasha is definately a Mal. So lo and behold after 4 years of partnership I finally know the breed of my companion. Go figure!
