Arrival Story: We grieved for years over the loss of our Seymour, our Springer Spaniel. We knew we wanted another dog, but couldn't decide about it. Then we watched Westminster and saw our first Clumber. We knew right away that we found our Dog. A search for a good breeder lead us to Jan and Walt, Stafford's breeder parents, and then we waited. It wasn't long, but seemed forever. But finally there was a litter with a funny puppy who crawled away from all the others to his own side of the whelping box. His face was funny. He was too big. His head misshapen. We visited the puppies a bunch of times, and just kept worrying about and loving this reluctant lump.

Bio: His misshapen head gave him lots of troubles at the beginning of his life. The skin on his face folded his eyelashes in toward his eyes, so he needed surgery to help pull it back. Two surgeries for that. He had early signs of hip displaysia, a bad neck. He struggles with eye problems and arthritis, but has the sweetest lopsided grin and whole body wag when he's feeling good and welcoming. Always brings a drool and slobber encrusted Clumber ball to a new guest of the house. He loves dogs, and so for a few years had a sister, Bobbie Jean, a beautiful Clumber, who died of brain cancer several months ago. Bob and Stafford looked like two piles of dirty laundry and filled our house with deep and rhythmic snoring. Now Stafford has young Charlie as his special project. He's teaching the young man how to work with people, along with a few impressive wrestling holds, and how to use his opposable thumbs without letting the humans see, because it would upset their whole world view for some reason.
