Dear Mom,
It's hot here at Camp. I mostly run around in the wee wee hours of the morning (you know when I get Dad up cause I have to wee wee at 4:30 am?)
No one is up then. I have to bark and bark and bark to wake stuff up!
I'm getting good at frisbee now. Dad says I need to quit chewing on it though or there won't be anything left to throw. Maybe you can bring a new one when you come to visit?
Dad's friend John came by yesterday and brought him some long green things. He put them on the picnic table. I really really really wanted to know what they were - but Dad said "NO - leave them alone." when I tried to smell them. Dad went in the garage, and nobody said "No" when I tried to smell them again. Interesting, so I carried them over in the shade to examine them more closely later. I knew I wasn't going to get to all of them, so I buried one (he called it a cucumber). I guess just because Dad isn't there to SAY "NO" doesn't mean it isn't still "NO" He didn't get real mad at me, but he's still looking for that cucumber. I'm saving it for you though, Mom!
What's Herbie doing? He didn't REALLY go on a roller coaster did he? No FAIR! I want to go too!
Dad's been letting me stay in the cabin by myself a little bit without putting me in 'the box'. It's a lot cooler in there, and my water doesn't get hot. I haven't tasted it good yet, but that leather couch sure looks yummy.
I'm counting down the days til you get here Mom, only 10 more!
What are you getting Herbie for his birthday on the 3rd? Maybe I'll give him that cucumber ......
love,
Chief

Dear Mom,
I just don't get it. Dad gets on that machine and digs and digs in the dirt.
I dig one little hole and my dad gets mad, says "you're too dirty to come in the house!" Man it's a nice hole, Mom. It's right by the patio - in the shade.
I loved that hole. Dad filled it in yesterday. *sniff* I miss my Mom *howl*

Dear Mom,
When are you coming to visit? Dad has been so busy he isn't paying much attention to me. We did go for a walk in the woods yesterday, but he won't go out there for very long, not since he saw all those copperheads.
I found a terrapin in the woods and brought it home with me. I played with it for a long time. It mostly slept though. It's still sleeping. There are a lot of buzzers flying around it trying to wake it up to play too. I don't know what it has in that shell with it, but it sure is smelling funny. I rolled around on it and went over to Dad to see if he could tell what the smell was. He got all 'oh get away' and pushed me away. He found my terrapin and picked it up with a poopscoop stick thing and took it down to the lake. It went way way down. I always thought terrapins could swim. I guess I need to fi nd another one.
What has Herbie been doing? I heard he ran after a car today and you swatted him. Wish I could have been there for that.
Tell Grandma thanks for sending the new frisbee. Will you play with me when you come down again?
Love,
Chief

Dear Mom,
We didn't get to do arfs and crafts yesterday. Dad got too hot on Sunday down at the boat dock, and he isn't feeling good. Don't worry, I checked on him at 1:30 am and again at 3:30 am - (cold nose to face method) - and he woke up both times. When I checked on him at 6 am - he got out of bed and let me go outside for reveille. Bark BARK barkbarkbark bark BARK barkbarkbark BARK bark barkbarkbark bark bark........ bark. I think that probably got everyone on this finger of the lake up and at 'em! I'm getting really good at that!
He had to go to town yesterday morning, so he gave me a carving project to do while he was gone. I got in my crate and started on the brown thing he gave me - but I kept messing up, and before you knew it - I'd carved an invisible cat. Good news is there was no mess to clean up - I'd eaten it too.
He told me I was a good boy when he got back, so I guess he liked the invisible cat idea.
People from the camp next to us came to visit. They have two very miniature people in their group. They look just alike, and they have this really neat little receptacle for carrying their poop and pee around with them. Imagine the possibilities for marking! You'd never run out or waste any! I got to smell them a little bit, but they must have been planning a surprise for me or something because they let me stay outside while they all talked inside.
Well Mom, what have you been doing? Is Herbie still a pain in the tail? Can you send some more bit o honey? Dad's eating it all.
Love,
Chief

Dear Mom,
Since you and Herbie went home Friday - it just isn't the same around here. Nobody to bark at, nobody to chase off my sacred treat burial grounds, and no extra special Mom lovin' hugs and pets. I just sat and watched the road for a long time after you left. If I hadn't been stuck to the ground with that long thing, I might have tried to follow you.
Dad and I are fine now. He fed me those beef ribs that you smoked before you left. They were really nice and chewy! I only had to put them in my water bowl three times before I could tear a piece off. Dad said you weren't suppose to cook beef jerky for him - but I'm really glad you did!
It's been raining some here. Dad left me in my crate for almost 6 hours yesterday while he went to wash clothes and do guy stuff with John. It was his birthday you know. I tried to poop in the woods so he didn't have to scooper it. That was my present to him.
It was pretty cool here this morning. I got Dad up early and then I went out to scout around a little bit. I took a nice run through the woods, and then checked out the garden. He hadn't buried anything new there for me, so I just dug up one of the old plants he already had there. After that I went into the barn lot and had a little deerdoodoo snack. When I finished that, Dad was at the cabin door calling me so I ran up and gave him a great big lick on the cheek. He likes that so much. He started talking to himself again while holding that talking toy of his, so I decided to take a little nap.
We're going to do some crafts tomorrow he said. Something to do with digging - that's my FAVORITE thing! oh boy oh boy!
Sure miss you Mom - tell Herbie I don't miss him and that he's a little brat.
Love,
Chief
