Arrival Story:
I woke up one day and knew I had to get a pet. I went to the Hawaiian Humane Society in Honolulu with my brother and told him I'd let my pet choose me! I was focused on the cats when my brother Alex said "Look at that little dog, with the ears" and I saw my Mana. We had the chance to play with him, to visit, and the Humane Society volunteer put this little puppy on the table. He jumped into my arms (no lie!!) and buried his face in my neck, then he licked my face. I was immediately in love. My brother said, "THIS is the dog". My sister in law Sharon was there, too, and she named him Mana, which in Hawaiian means 'great spirit'. He was abused, and it took me a while with him before he wouldn't cringe or duck when I reached for him. My mana is the best thing to ever happen to me!!!!!

Bio:
This little guy is a survivor. When he was six months, we were walking him (in Honolulu) and he was viciously attacked by a very big dog (100 #s-plus). Both dogs were on leash, and the attack was unprovoked. My little guy yelped home to me, bloody! I freaked, but we got him to an emergency vet where he got 64 stiches. He almost died. The owners of the attacking dog refused to pay, so we took them to small claims and WON! The judge added everything he could to the judgement: stamps, bandages, gas!

Just like all of you, I have struggled with my weight. But since my mom takes me on much longer walks and Dr Werner put me on thyroid medicine, I am much thinner. This time last year I was 22 pounds! Instead of treats I now have baby carrots. Delish.

Biggest doggie loser!

Surgery, AGAIN?!

So mommy took me to two vets yesterday to have my knee and hip examined. I ended up with some really cool painkillers that make me sleepy so I dont walk around so much. When we go for a walk I hop around like a three legged dog! Sometimes it hurts so much I whimper which makes mommy very sad. Monday we go back to Foothill Vet in Pasadena to see Dr. Bell. We love Dr. Bell! He will tell us if my tendons are torn and if I need surgery to put them back together. Wish me luck!!

My latest surgery

So I just had a tumor (a little smaller than an egg) removed from my lower abdomen (a nice way of saying under my tesitcle) and mom has refrained from posting the pics. They are not pretty. But the good news is its not cancer. It may be some other disease but I'm cancer-free! Sending major shout-outs to Pasadena, CA based Foothill Veterinary Clinic, to Drs. Bell and Howes for always caring and being there for me. The staff there ROCK. Since I'm a 'frequent flyer' they know me and my mom and LOVE that our last name is BONE. I get my stitches out in two days! Then I can stop wearing the "Buster Classic" 15.5cm plastic cone! Yay for me!
