 Quick Bio:
Likes: FLYBALL! His people, especially his dad & anything that requires movement.

Pet-Peeves: Going to the vet, waiting his turn in flyball and anytime Dad is watching TV instead of playing with him.

Favorite Toy: Tennis ball! Tennis ball! Tennis ball! (and the laser pen)

Favorite Food: Dooley likes sweets, human stuff he shouldn't be getting, but dad lets him have a taste of.

Favorite Walk: Anywhere...as long as we are going somewhere.

Best Tricks: Dooley does many tricks, learning new ones is a favorite thing for him. He can roll over, shake, high five, play dead, if you drop something he will get it for you, he can open the fridge and get you a soda...he just hasn't learned to close the fridge!

Arrival Story: I was on a waiting list for a purebred Australian Cattle Dog puppy with a breeder when I attended a local horse show and saw Dooley in a whole litter of pups in the back of a truck. He was so cute I couldn't resist...$35 and a handshake and he came home with me. Dooley was the result of a midnight rendezvous between a pb black and white Australian Shepherd(mom) and a pb yellow Lab(dad). All the pups in his litter looked like yellow labs except two...Dooley is a blue merle from head to toe and his sister is a red merle from head to toe. They were the only two pups in the litter to take after mom. I would have taken the little female too, but she was already spoken for.
Dooley was supposed to be MY dog, I did the training with him and still do..bottom line is, Dooley and my husband bonded in a big way so Dooley became his dog.

Bio: Dooley grew up to be 45.5 pounds and 22" at the shoulder. He is the easiest dog to train and knows many tricks. He is in constant motion, hence the nickname WiggleButtDog. When he was just turning two we took him to a beginning flyball class in an attempt to find something he could burn off all the energy doing. He excelled at this sport and is now a start dog for the X-Fidos Flyball Team. He has also done some agility and loves that as well. Dooley is the lovingest, most intelligent loyal dog I have ever had he is truly a treasured member in our family.

This month we competed in the first flyball tournament ever held in Oregon. It was much fun! Dooley earned his FDX title over the weekend and earned enough points to make it more than halfway to the next title. It was so nice to not have to travel so far to play some flyball. Dooley turned 4 years old this month. Happy Birthday Dooley!!!

Our flyball team does alot of demonstrations of the sport for all sorts of events, usually dog related. We do them for a couple reasons, one being that it's a great way to spend some time with your dog and fellow dog lovers, and most people don't know what flyball is. Secondly, it gives our dogs a chance to race with all the normal distractions of a crowd so it's great practice. The third reason is that here in Oregon there are only a couple teams which means to compete, we as a team have to travel quite far, usually into Washington State and Canada. If we can get more people interested in the sport and more teams develope right in our own backyard...we can have local competitions.
My dogs love these dog events, it's just like taking your kids to County Fair. There are many vendors all giving away free doggie treats and toys, they usually have games set up that you can do with your dog, kiddie pools for the dogs, contests...all fun stuff. As soon as we start walking through the vendor lanes my dogs KNOW what it means and they are very serious about showing their best behavior. Dooley will approach a vendor table and immediately sit looking his most dashing in hopes of getting a treat. Sometimes they offer a shake or high five which usually means more than one treat.
We have entered Dooley in some of the contests at these events and we always have a blast. Dooley has won a medal in a sprint race..taking second against a greyhound...Dooley says the greyhound cheated =). He has won two other medals and some ribbons for trick contests. He won a stuffie for a costume contest..he went as "BatDog" and at our last demo he won his first trophy (and an AirBud movie) for best trick. He did his "Bang Bang" dead dog trick and I think roll over and high five as well. A police officer was the judge, and afterwards he wanted to show off his dog as well. The dog of course did everything he asked with precision and it was awesome to watch. My husband said quietly as we walked away, "yeah but that dogs had like 400 hours of training..I'll bet he can't play dead". Jealousy??? I think so!
We always have so much fun with our dogs at these types of events..the next time you see one advertised..put a leash on your dog and go have some fun!
