Sorry it's been so long since we've visited our Dogster pages. What's new?

Mom bought us our very own house all by herself! Yay!! She's working on getting the yard fenced in so we can have endless hours of outside playtime before the summer ends. Hopefully it won't be too much longer though...

We have a new addition to the family: a little kitten named Blossom. Her mommy was a stray cat, who was dumped at mom's work in a box... very pregnant. Well, mom adopted one of her babies, and she's pretty. She's a medium-hair, lilac point, with gorgeous gray eyes. Leyna and she are wrestling buddies. It's kinda nice for Leyna to have someone else to wrestle with so I can have a break every once and a while.

Leyna is entered to race in the 2007 Wiener Nationals on August 11th. It's a Dachshund race at River Downs, our local horse race track. As of right now, she's only a reserve, Mom didn't get her registration in time, but the guy at the track said that often times, some people don't show up, so there's a good chance she'll get to race! We don't expect her to win, since she's not so great with her recall command, but it'll be fun either way. What can be more fun than being around hundreds of Weenies?? We're all very excited for my little sis, so everyone root for her!!

Well that's it for now, but I'll try not to be such a stranger from now on!

Love you all!!

Dolly

T'was the Night Before Christmas... A Dobie Story

T’was the night before Christmas
And the Shelter is dark,
The whole place is silent,
Not even a bark.
The dogs are all locked in their pens for the night,
The staff has gone home and turned out the light.

As I lay my head down on the cold, concrete floor,
I fondly recall my home from before.
The family I loved, who loved me right back,
We’d share everything – from secret to snack.
Things couldn’t be better this time last year,
But that has all changed and now I am here.

I won’t see the tree, the lights, or the snow,
I’m scared and alone, my spirits are low.
The others like me weren’t chosen for adoption,
A new family and home, for us wasn’t an option.
We’ve been locked up in cells as if we were crooks,
We don’t deserve homes because of our looks.
Not diesel, or Bingo, or the young one named Percy,
Deserve to be loved nor shown any mercy.

While families celebrate holiday cheer,
I know in my heart that my end is near.
The vet will arrive, the lights will go on,
By the time you awake, we all will be gone.
A stranger will come and take me away,
I’ll never wake to see another day.
As I close my eyes I’ll shed you a tear,
The fondest of memories I’ll always keep near.

The only thing I’ve ever asked of Santa Claus,
Is to stop all these unfair and ridiculous laws.
You said without me, your life was not rosy,
So why does it matter that I’m a big “dobie”?

In my dream, Santa shouts when he’s finished his deed,
“Merry Christmas to all – regardless of breed!”

Christmas Rules for the Dog

1. Be especially patient with your humans during this time. They may
appear to be more stressed-out than usual and they will appreciate long
comforting dog leans.

2. They may come home with large bags of things they call gifts. Do not
assume that all the gifts are yours.

3. Be tolerant if your humans put decorations on you. They seem to get some special kind of pleasure out of seeing how you look with fake antlers.

4. They may bring a large tree into the house and set it up in a prominent
place and cover it with lights and decorations.Bizarre as this may seem to
you, it is an important ritual for your humans, so there are some things you need to know:

a. Don't pee on the tree
b. Don't drink water in the container that holds the tree
c. Mind your tail when you are near the tree
d. If there are packages under the tree, even ones that smell interesting or that have your name on them, don't rip them open
e. Don't chew on the cord that runs from the funny-looking hole in the wall to the tree

5. Your humans may occasionally invite lots of strangers to come visit
during this season. These parties can be lots of fun, but they also call for some
discretion on your part:

a. Not all strangers appreciate kisses and leans
b. Don't eat off the buffet table
c. Beg for goodies subtly
d. Be pleasant, even if unknowing strangers sit on your sofa
e. Don't drink out of glasses that are left within your reach

6. Likewise, your humans may take you visiting. Here your manners will
also be important:

a. Observe all the rules in #4 for trees that may be in other people's
houses.

(4a is particularly important)

b. Respect the territory of other animals that may live in the house
c. Tolerate children
d. Turn on your charm big time

7. A big man with a white beard and a very loud laugh may emerge from your
fireplace in the middle of the night. DO NOT BITE HIM!!!

Tah-Tah for now!

It's a very bitter sweet day today. Mom got a new job! She's getting back into the Veterinary field - a job she absolutely loves. Leyna, Oliver, and I are so happy for her. The problem is that we don't have a computer at home, so we won't be able to play with our Dogster pals for a while. Until Mom buys us a computer for home, anyway. So with a heavy heart, I must say good-bye to my pals for a while. We love you all and hope each and every one of you have a safe and happy holiday season!

Much love,
Dolly

Off to the vet we go...

Ok, I think I've done made Mom very sad. I was getting my usual belly rub down on Saturday night and Mom found a lump on my belly. She had Auntie Kristen feel for it just to make sure she wasn't imagining things. I didn't mind this at all, the more belly rubs, the better I always say. Mom called Aunt Becky to come look at it too. Aunt Becky said that Mom should bring me in to see the Vet lady, just to be sure.

Well, after a fun day at Puppy Camp yesterday, Mom took us to the vet. Leyna went too just for "my support", or so Mom says. I think it's just because she's an attention hog and wanted to steal some of my lovin. The vet lady came in and she gave me a good rub down, looked at my teeth, and in my eyes and ears, and combed out some of my fur (I think she was looking for any bugs or critters). Then she had mom and Aunt Becky (she's a nurse at my vet office) lay me down for some really good belly rubs. The vet found the lump that Mom found and kinda dug around there for a minute. It didn't really bother me at all. It was kinda nice getting all the attention for once (Leyna had to sit on Mom's lap and watch).

The vet said that my lump could be one of two things: a mammary tumor or mammary hyperplasia. The humans are kinda stumped by this because I'm only two years old, never had any puppies, and was spayed before I had my first heat cycle. The vet told my Mom to keep an eye on it to make sure that the mass doesn't change. If it doesn't, than it's probably just the hyperplasia and should not cause any problems. I know Mom is worried because she cuddled with me a lot last night and cried. I don't want Mom to be sad because I'm feeling fine right now. We just need to keep my Mom in our thoughts because it makes me sad when she's sad.

I'll keep you all posted on my progress. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers. My Mom and I appreciate it more than you all know.

My Tail of Devotion for Dolly

My Dearest Dolly,

I just wanted to thank you for all of the joy you have brought to my life. I've loved you from the first moment that I met you. It's almost like we were meant to find each other. You have been my rock through very tough times. You always seem to know when I need a shoulder to cry on, and sit by my side with your paw on my lap. You can always make me laugh when I need it, and even when I don't. In the short year and a half that you've been in my life, I feel like you know me better than any human that I know. I couldn't have asked for a better canine companion than you. Even now that Leyna has become a part of our lives, you have always been my first dog and you will forever hold a very special place in my heart. I hope that we'll have many more joyous years to come.

Much love from your Mom.

What's A Tornado?

We had some nasty weather last night. Mom says that we were very lucky. Something she called a tornado hit 9 miles away from our house last night. Mom was plastered to the TV watching the pretty color thingy go across the screen, then she gathered us all into the bathroom for a little while. Can you imagine me, Leyna, Cody (Auntie Kristen's Pomeranian), and our two cats all crammed in the bathroom?? Leyna kept bouncing around and torturing Oliver because there was nowhere for him to run! Silly puppy. We're all ok though. There were a bunch of fun broken branches in our backyard this morning! Woohoo!! We love sticks! It's still rainy and yucky today again. Hopefully we'll be able to play outside tomorrow.

I Caught It!!

No not my frisbee, sorry to tease. But Mom's been working with me on my catching... or lack thereof... abilities. We've started with catching cookies, and you'll never guess... I CAUGHT THREE IN A ROW!! Woohoo!! I'm well on my way to catching that darned frisbee if it takes me until next summer!!

Happy 4th of July!

Ok, so I'm a day late. Sorry woofs.

The holiday was pretty good for me. Aunt Kristen's friends came over on Monday and were making loud booming noises that scared me a little bit. But I'm a big girl, so I put on a brave face for my sister and it turned out to be not so bad. Mom said that since the houses are so close together, they're not allowed to make the booming noises, so yay for me!! Mom ended up staying home and the three of us snuggled on the couch and watch a couple of movies... that is until Mom's phone rang at 11:30 pm from a (*poke*) good friend of ours who was letting us join in their party! BOL!! Silly Leyna slept through the whole thing though.

Yesterday, Mom played with us outside for most of the day, until it started storming like crazy! Oh and guess what! I almost caught my frisbee in the air yesterday! It hit me in the face, so that counts, right? Mom just laughed and laughed. I just live to amuse her!
