Leave a bone for Mondale Jones

Nicknames: Mondalus, Mondale Jones the Handsome Hound, Schnau, sweet bear

Quick Bio:
 Likes: Human attention, Supergirl attention

Pet-Peeves: Thunder

Favorite Toy: flip flops

Favorite Food: Anything Supergirl gets to eat

Favorite Walk: Fort Woof Dog Park

Best Tricks: Napping, mouse catching, breaking up skirmishes at Fort Woof.

Arrival Story: My dog Supergirl temporarily did not live with me for 9 months. (Long story) In October 2000, after 5 months of no Supergirl, I went to get a little dog at the Humane Society. Mondale, then named Max, had two days left. He was found and brought to Humane Society. He was obviously someone's very good dog. Well kempt. Ears cut (although I wish they weren't). Mondale came to his new home and watched the Florida recount with his human for a month, where he seemed perfectly content to sit on the couch while the human screamed at the TV.

Bio: He was named Mondale after former Vice President Fritz Mondale because he looked like a "Fritz" but that was too obvious. And like VP Mondale, Mondale the dog is very friendly and very much a peacemaker with a loud bark. And Mondale, like VP Mondale, believes strongly in Social Security.
In 2001, my landlady told me Mondale stayed home and whimpered all day while I was at work but she could not let me have another dog. So a friend of mine suggested I buy a house and then I could get the owner, me, to let me get Mondale a companion. So I bought my first house in Febuary 2001. Then, through a wierd alignment of the stars, Supergirl's household could no longer keep her and offered her back to me. Of course I jumped at the chance and introduced Mondale and Supergirl, who got along from the start.
He likes to escape from the house or backyard and scamper about. Once he was gone for 5 hours. This causes me to worry.
Mondale enjoys Fort Woof Dog Park, including the ride to the park.
Mondale has a crush on his housemate Supergirl, and is perfectly content to be her Second Fiddle 90% of the time.
Mondale is more social then Supergirl. Mondale loves to be petted. Mondale also likes meeting other dogs at Fort Woof Dog Park, although can be packish with Supergirl while there on occassion. Mondale, while only 20 lbs, easily navigates the large dog area of Fort Woof Dog Park.
Supergirl and Mondale have defintely become a pack. Supergirl has taught Mondale the art of chasing squrrels and cats and the art of being a watch dog. Mondale has shown Supergirl the art of corraling mice.
Mondale actively campaigned for the establishment of Fort Woof Dog Park. He has been in the newspaper and on ABC TV, and CBS TV affiliates to promote Fort Woof.
Fort Woof had a fundraiser to elect its Mayor at Barktoberfest. The candidate who raised the most money won. Mondale ran a strong campaign for Mayor of Fort Woof. His campaign was actually covered by the Fort Worth Star Telegram newspaper. Mondale's campaign slogan was "Pet Me 2004." Mondale was the front runner but the Swift Boat Vetinarians for Truth came out and told lies about Mondale, such as he wasn't relly a schnauzer but had an operation to become a schnauzer. Very ugly. Mondale lost the election by $2.
In 2005, Mondale was elected Mayor of Fort Woof. The City of Fort Worth proclaimed May 17, 2006 Mondale day, also recognizing his beloved Supergirl, for his efforts to establish and support Fort Woof.
On October 8, 2006, Mondale crossed rainbow bridge to be with the other angels. Mondale's family is grateful for all the love and hope he brought to everyone's life that he touched.

Fort Woof, the city's only dog park, lost one of its biggest fans this month.
Its mayor, a miniature schnauzer named Mondale, died unexpectedly this month from what appeared to be fast-growing lung cancer.
"Mondale gave me a lot of hope and inspired me to spend a lot of my free time getting Fort Woof built so other families could enjoy the outdoors with their four-legged friends," said Jason Smith, Mondale's owner and president of the Fort Worth Dog Park Association.
Mondale was elected mayor of Fort Woof last year after earning more donations for the dog park than any other candidate. He had been "seeking" re-election this year on a platform that included a "Medidog" proposal to socialize veterinary care for dogs.
"Who would think a little 20-pound dog could make such an impact?" Smith said. "He will be missed."

Following his namesake's career in politics, Mondale ran for Mayor of Fort Woof Dog Park and won! The election was held at Fort Woof (in Fort Worth, Texas) at Barktoberfest. You could legally buy the election, as the proceeds were really donations to support Fort Woof Dog Park. Sammie the Australian Shepard gave Mondale a "run for his money", but Mondale's financial backers came to his rescue and pushed him to victory. Again, his campaign motto was "Pet Me!" As Mayor, Mondale will serve as the good will ambassador for Fort Woof Dog Park. Thanks to all who supported Mondale.
Hail to the Schnau!

When it thunders, I head for cover and shake like I am shivering. Sometimes I even take a half a Benedryl to calm my nerves. Fireworks also send me to hide in closets, under beds and nightstands. Supergirl is also pretty good and letting me curl up in a ball behind her.
Stop the madness!
