Arrival Story: My husband and I adopted Serenity, a loveable mutt, from the Henry County Humane Society. We searched on Petfinder to find a dog and when we saw her picture, we had to go down to meet her. Serenity has been part of our family since the end of June 2004, and we couldn't be happier. Serenity is absolutely wonderful! We now wonder what we possibly ever did without her. The Henry County Humane named her Serenity because of her calm nature. Though that sometimes is a question, she definitely brings serenity, love, and playfulness into our lives.
We learned from the shelter that Serenity had been dropped off with a box of puppies. Serenity was adopted shortly after arriving to the shelter by a woman. The woman had another dog that was not fond of Serenity. The other dog would often beat up Serenity and Serenity was eventually locked in a cage most of the day to prevent the other dog from getting her. The woman knew she had to do something and returned Serenity to the shelter. When we were first told that Serenity was a returned dog, we had second thoughts about getting her. Was it just the other dog that made the woman return her? Would Serenity be mean and nasty to all other dogs because of this encounter? Lucky for us, we decided to still adopt Serenity and we do not regret any part of it.
We take Serenity to the park daily where she loves to play Frisbee and fetch with a tennis ball. We laugh so much now that winter has come. When it is snowing out she likes to catch snowflakes on her tongue. Once there is snow on the ground, she loves to frolic in the snow. Serenity will get into her paws-down-playing-position and just run. The energy that she radiates while playing is enough to make anyone smile from ear to ear.
Serenity also likes to play with her many toys and loves to eat treats, especially anything that contains carob. She loves to go for a ride in the car. In fact, we can not say the word around her. We have even spelled the word so much around her; she is starting to know what it means when we spell it to!
We thank the Henry County Humane Society so much for bringing Serenity into our lives. We occasionally take the one and a half hour drive for the volunteers to see her again. Serenity is also full of kisses and likes to give love to everyone. She is the sweetest dog I have ever met and most people agree when they meet her.
I hope that anyone that reads my story makes sure to check out animal shelters when looking for a dog. The shelters have some of the most wonderful dogs and too many people do not give them a chance. Let a shelter know if you are looking for a certain dog, and most of the time they will notify you when one is available. And of course, Petfinder will let you search multiple ways to find the dog you are looking for. So please, adopt a homeless dog and feel the joy of an animal’s love.

Bio: Serenity lives in Illinois and loves it! She loves the nice days where she can go outside and play Frisbee and on playground equipment. She loves the winter too when she can catch snowballs and romp in the snow! She also likes to play at her Grandma's house with her Aunt Sophie.

I can't believe I have been part of Dogster for over two months! I have so many friends. Everyone on the site is so friendly and helpful. I am happy that my mommy came across this site. The only thing is, I hate it when my mommy is typing because then she can't pet me. I wish I could type myself, but my paws just seem to hit too many keys at once. My mommy didn't have to go to work today so I got to watch the Animal Planet Puppy Bowl in the morning. I watched some of it, but football does get boring. Later today I just took a nap and then I got to ride to my great grandparents house. It is always exciting when I get to see relatives, more people to pet and kiss. I love to give kisses to my family, but I don't think they always want them (just makes me give them more!). Well Dogster, I am going to bed now. Have a wonderful tomorrow.

Well, today is only my second day on dogster and I already have eight pup pals! I am so glad that I have been so well accepted because it is very important to me ( I like to be loved by all). I really like being able to show off since I am a little bit of a princess. Today was overall pretty relaxing for me. I first woke my parents up with huge kisses in the face. Once they got up I played with my toys (mostly with my chicken), and I later played frisbee at the park. By then, I was pretty tired and my parents had to go to work. So, I ate my peanut butter frozen yogurt my mommy made for me and I took my afternoon nap. I tell you, it is a dog's life!
