Cora is a champ-ee-yon lobbyist for treats. She knows how to get what she wants!!! And, it's not really a trick, but Cora does the fastest play-bow we've ever seen!!!

Arrival Story:
My husband & I made the decision to get a dog. We researched several different breeds and decided on a Newfoundland. Our search for a breeder began. We found Cora's breeder, and after a few telephone conversations and meetings, Cora came home with us. She is everything we ever hoped for, and is a wonderful sweet girl. She got us hooked on Newfoundlands!

Bio:
Cora & I are a therapet team. We've visited childrent living with their Mom's in a battered women's shelter and children who are considered "high risk" and are living in an "intensive treatment center". Cora has an a special affinity for children. She has been credited with actually helping a child speak for the first time in a month. The child was living with her mother at a local battered women's shelter... and had not spoken since entering the shelter with her Mom! Cora has also earned two AKC titles. One is "CGC" which stands for Canine Good Citizen. The other, a "CD" stands for Companion Dog, which is an obedience title. You can see a picture of Cora and Russell on this page the day she got her "CD". She came in 2nd place and it was a very proud day for all of us!!! You can visit Cora at her very own web page: http://www.freewebs.com/coranewf/

It is with great sorrow in my heart that I write this. Our beloved girl has crossed the bridge... she's been sick for weeks now and today her eyes told us that enough was enough. So we lovingly released her. I'll write more about her later.. but for now... I'm lighting a candle for her... and spending time with our other Newfs.

Godspeed my sweet girl. You were the best.. and we'll love you forever.

I got to go to the lake!

It was hot hot hot.. and thank goodness for the air-conditioning. Mom let me come out in the mornings with them, and in the evening. She made me stay inside during the hottest part of the day. I wanted to come out for visits, and she let me... but I figure out real quick that it was too hot and told her when I was ready to go back in.

Even though I'm a Newf, I've never been a big swimmer. I would have liked to gone out on the pontoon, but the one we use wasn't out... and Mom didn't want to take me on the other one cause it's new and they didn't want my hair all over it! Can you imagine?!?!?!? Mom felt bad for me.. she would have cleaned it up, but it was just better not to go there. Next time, I'll get a ride!

She did have a spray bottle filled with water, and she misted me alot, and that really helped. And, for a treat, she made me my very own snow cones! We have a snow cone maker up there, and she melted beef bouillon cubes, and froze them.. and then put them in the snow cone maker, and made snow cones. They were yummy and the best thing is that she brought it home! I can't wait for Kira, Ben & Yelda to try them!

Good Girl Gone Bad

Dear Diary...

My Mom wrote this in her blog the other day. It's all about me (and Ben...)

"This is not a blog about those cheesy info-mercials about wild girls... on the contrary. My normally placid, obedient Cora.. the one who I can depend on to always be good, the one who visited sick children in hospitals, the one who would let a troubled child brush her for hours despite the fact that she absolutely despises being brushed, has been a bit naughty. And please realize that I'm in no way suggesting she's a perfect angel.. because she has her mischevious moments. She is, however the closest thing to an angel I've got.

But today, she got a burr up her butt. I was outside with both Cora and Ben. Ben was on a leash, and Cora was loose. Ben was being a good boy and going about his business. Initally, Cora was doing the same. But then she got that look. And I knew.. I just KNEW! She looked this way, and then she looked that way, and then in a flash, she bolted. She took off into our neighbor's yard. I called to her to come.. but she either didn't hear me, or chose to ignore me.

At this point, Officer Benjamin Kramer-Fife arrived, and ordered in a "loud barking fashion" for Cora to cease and desist... in other worlds FREEZE! Cora didn't pay any attention- she views Ben as a "young whipper-snapper" and pays him no mind. She's actually like Aunt Bea refusing to listen to Sherriff Andy Taylor. And so, I moaned and grumbled, and took Ben inside. Of course, he didn't appreciate this at all. I then hurried back outside, and went to retrieve my little delinquent. She was happily moseying along, sniffing this, sniffing that. When I approached her, she just looked at me, almost happily... with a 'Oh.. you meant me?' expression on her face!

As so I scolded her and then escorted her inside and into her crate. I went about my morning routine... taking Kira & Yelda out.. feeding and watering the entire crew.. and getting ready for work. At one point, she tried to "make nice" with me, and I tried hard not to respond, thinking that maybe she'll understand that I'm really put out! HA! Yeah, like right! She know's I adore her.. and she may have known I was annoyed, but she also somehow knows that all will be forgiven. And it was. However, when I got home at the end of the day, she went out "on leash" and just sort of rolled her eyes at me. And then she kissed my hand."

I didn't mean to be naughty.. .it's just that I KNOW Jack the neighbor dog has good stuff to eat and I thought I'd go over and see if he would share. Mom & I are all made up now... and I'm being very good...

for now!
