Arrival Story:
We found Lucy through an online site for a local shelter. They had mislabeled her picture "French Bulldog/Hound Mix". From the picture, we couldn't tell if she had a hound face and Frenchy body, so we went to see her. She has NO bulldog in her (French or otherwise), but she was the only dog in the shelter that didn't bark or whimper... she just walked over to me and leaned against my leg. We knew we had to take her home with us immediately.

Growing Up

The days of needing to run 3 times a day at the park are over. Maybe I'm just getting older, or maybe I'm in a good routine, I don't know. Of course, this weather hasn't been helping any! But my parents are great... they take me to the park every day even if it's raining. They even put this really silly rain coat on me to keep me dry and warm. I feel silly wearing it, but it is great not getting all cold and wet. I HATE the rain, and it seems to be raining all the time these days.

It's getting cold out. Before you know it, there will be snow to play in. I LOVE snow. I hate the salt the neighbors use to keep the snow off the sidewalk, but the snow itself is great. Fun to play in, fun to pee on, fun to try to catch snowballs and eat them.

Well, it's nap time and my mommy is looking mighty comfortable. Time to curl in and warm her up.

What's This Swimming Thing All About?

So, my mommy and daddy have been saying all summer how they would love to take me somewhere that I could go swimming, and how they couldn't wait to see me in the water.

We went to see Grandfather a few weeks ago and daddy did something really funny. There's a big pond in the backyard and he went and jumped right into it. Well, daddy being daddy and me being a big daddy's girl, I ran and chased him into the pond.

That whole swimming thing, I don't think I really understood what it was before, and now that I know, I don't think I like it!

1. It's a lot of work.
2. The water gets in your ears and it feels funny on my back and "backside".
3. There were these awful flies that bit me whenever I'd come out of the water.

Daddy kept jumping in the water and I followed him one or two more times because he really seemed to want me to, but mostly he'd go swimming and I'd stand at the edge of the water and bark at him while mommy stood on the lawn and laughed.

Mommy was the smart one, really. She didn't go in the water. She just had a camera and took pictures of me and laughed. I guess it was funny to her the way that I looked like I was smiling when I was swimming. Of course, what I was really doing was trying to keep my head above water.

Well, one more thing in this world I've experienced. Gotta say, I don't see the big deal about it.

Dog Parks-a-Plenty

Man, my mommy and daddy really like to play with me! When I was a puppy, we would play at home or a few times a week we would go to a local park where we would all walk around. Sometimes they would let me off the leash there, but I guess the fact that there were no fences and I started to stray further and further away from them made them nervous, because they started taking me to these really neat places that are fenced in and have tons of other dogs to play with.

When they first started taking me there, we'd only go on the weekends, but now we go at least once every day (unless it's raining and I refuse to go)! Yesterday, they took me twice! And the second time we went to a NEW PARK. There were some fun dogs there. There was this one small dog (mommy said it was a Whippet), and boy was she fast! She'd run and run and run and I'd have to figure out which way she was going to go and cut her off, because I just couldn't catch her! She was really nice. We even had some water together. After she left, daddy threw the ball with me for a little while, and then he'd jump up and swing from a tree branch. That was really funny. I kept trying to grab that tree branch just like my daddy, but all I could reach were his swinging legs.

It was really hot yesterday, so after a little while mommy and daddy wanted to go home. But just as they started to talk about it, another really fun dog came in. A dalmation puppy. Boy was she spunky! We had so much fun playing together!

Today, mommy took me to the park instead of daddy. Daddy was in a hurry this morning and mommy woke up a little late, so I didn't get to play with my other early morning friends, but at least I got to play. There was a small terrier type dog that kept jumping on my mommy and I didn't really like that so I chased him. I think he thought it was a game, but I just wanted him to leave my mommy alone. Jumping on her is my job! After he left, I played with a rough and tough doberman. She was new to the park and wasn't so sure that she liked the other dogs. I went over to see if she wanted to play and she was like, "Okay". We ran for a little while but it was so hot that we ended up just jumping up on each other and tugging at each other's faces and rolling on the ground together for half an hour. That was a lot of fun. But then she had to go home with her dad.

I wonder what kind of fun is in store for tomorrow? Maybe I can go dream about it. I'm really tired.

Hope the rest of you are having a good day too!
