Arrival Story:
I took over as Duke's primary caregiver when he was around 2 years old. Duke was a little slower than most dogs, aggressive, and often sick. He was leery of other dogs due to his history, and remained people aggressive. (His physical and mental traits were presumed to be a result of irresponsible breeding.)

Bio:
Duke formed a bad case of separation anxiety. When I left the house he became self destructive, often requiring my Mom to restrain him until he calmed down. Over time Duke began to get a little better, eventually he could be left alone with Nikita outside of a crate. Around age four Duke started having sporadic seizures, no cause could be found. They stopped when he was 6 years old and never returned. He went through a lot, random infections, unspecified dermatitis outbreaks, to a ringworm fungus that eventually cost him all his toenails. (It was as gross as it sounds. Believe me.) At age nine, Duke was diagnosed with congestive heart failure due to a left mitral valve dysplasia. We lost him just three months later. There was nothing more that could be done. My heart breaks all over again, every single day.
