Since December 2005...

... Charlotte was returned to the shelter after only 2 weeks. She was not working out for her new owner's older rottweiler. She was too jealous and agressive towards both of them if they even looked at each other.
She was taken in by another family, but returned after only a few days, mostly because of her barking. Then she was taken to a foster home, on a farm, but her chasing cows and horses didn't earn her any points. She has been back at the shelter since april 2006.

Charlotte was adopted from a beagle breeder who just wanted to get rid of the mutt puppies. She was the only one with black and white colouring, all the other puppies were golden. She was also the only one with a crooked front left leg. The kids and their dad picked her because of her colour. She seemed very calm and very submissive when she first came home.
After about 6 months, she started aggressive behaviour. She bit and destroyed a lot. She ended up confined in a kennel when we weren't home or when she had done something bad, like a hole in a wall, chewed up the fence, stole the kids mittens and shredded them, put holes in all winter boots not put away high up or in a locked closet etc. She particularly loved freshly cleaned laundry, I had the misfortune of leaving my brand new work pants on the top of the dryer once... The biting was mostly directed at the kids trying to get a toy of theirs, or the gameboy out of her mouth. She just didn't want to give them up without having put a hole in them!
I registered her in obedience classes, and things seemed to be getting better. I was regaining control.
However, the day she attacked Alex, 11, everything was perfectly calm in the house. Charly had been really good. Alex was sitting on the living room floor and called her up for some petting. She went over and enjoyed the attention for about 5 minutes, and then turned on him. She grabbed his face and wouldn't let go! The girls screamed and tried to get her off, and their younger brother ran and hid in his room. Of course I was at work, but they all stuck to the same story, which I believe, because otherwise I would have heard different versions.
There was no reason for the attack, he was actually just petting her!
After a few difficult days at the shelter, apparently she started to behave again.
She has now been adopted in the same town, and I hope her new owner can work out her passive agressive temperament and have better luck than we did.
