Long long long walks (hopefully spotting a squirrel along the way!), running, cuddling, other dogs, attention, being groomed, and chasing us around the yard
Crates. She must have had a bad experience with them when she was young. Seeing people hit their dogs. Treats.
She runs away from her Kong. I think it scares her.
Innova. She is an extremely picky eater. And she doesn't want anything to do with treats.
Anywhere! But especially down to Cooper Park or even better, to the dog run at McCarren Park.
Acting like a cat. Coming when called (this is a big deal for a Jindo!)
Kaiya (formerly Shee-lah) until recently lived her life in a pen at the back of her owner's property. She was never walked, never groomed, covered in fleas and ticks, and basically completely neglected. Since they didn't have enough time to give her the love or attention she deserves, a rescue organization convinced them to put her up for adoption. When I saw her picture on Petfinder, I couldn't resist! I went to meet her, and within five minutes, she was giving me kisses through the chain links of her pen. Needless to say, I decided to adopt her.
Her first night me was rough. She had three surgeries done that day (spay, microchip, and a tooth extraction) plus two shots, AND a new master. Plus, she wasn't used to life inside, so she was miserable. We spent our second day together napping in the sun, and since then, she's been great.
Kaiya is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. She's a typical Jindo and is very affectionate with her family and a bit more reserved with strangers. In just a few short weeks, she has gone from being a solitary outside dog to an indoor dog that loves constant attention. The best thing about her is her capacity for forgiveness. Any dog that was neglected like she was could easily be wary of humans and be a difficult dog to train, but Kaiya constantly wants to please and be around her new pack. She is amazing.

Julie told me I need to update my diary since it's been, um, a year. I told her she should update my pictures so everyone can see what a beautiful pretty pretty princess I am. Besides, the life of a Jindo is very busy. There's moping to do (when I'm alone), rats to catch, doors to tear up, and hearts to win.
But fine, I'll update. Life is gooooooooood. Life is SO GOOD! I've lived with Julie for a year now, and I have vague recollections of my old life. I think it was lonely? I'm not really sure. I'm 100% over it...I just don't like it when I get left alone too long. Don't people realize I'm the center of the universe? My weekends are the best. I get lots of attention from Julie and her friend, and they take me for long walks and let me cuddle with them and sit on their laps when I get scared of thunder. Which isn't often! I'm very brave! It was just loud the other night.
I'm sooooo itchy right now because I'm shedding like crazy. My winter coat finally decided to come off, and now I'm leaving little love notes for Julie all over the room. She can't sit down without get little pieces of Kaiya all over her! This way, everyone can know how much I love her. She tells me this isn't fair because she's a New Yorker and wears a lot of black, but I know she secretly loves it.
Anyway, there are some feral kitties in the backyard that I need to go watch from the window. I'm trying to convince Julie to adopt one of them so I can have a friend, but she says she doesn't want to see what a kitten and a Kaiya could do to her room while she's gone. Psh....we'd be good....honest!
Signing off for now...

Julie says I did very well with her friend last night. He really liked me and thought I was so pretty and kept petting me and didn't mind when I sat on his feet. He liked that I was so calm and sweet and he liked my wiggle butt dance that I did when they got back from dinner. Really, I don't know what Julie was so worried about....how could anyone NOT love me??? Also, her friend is Korean, so I think he and I had a special bond. Julie and he took me out for a walk, and I kept looking behind me to make sure he was still with us. At the end of the night, he said that he could understand why people like dogs so much, because things are less complicated with them than humans. Yes! Another non-believer converted by Kaiya!

Man, I had such a good time tormenting Julie last night. Neither of us could sleep, but I made extra sure she knew I couldn't sleep by pacing and whining and staring out the window. Then I noticed that she finally fell asleep, so I barked! I never bark, except in my sleep. Julie woke up, and was so surprised. Then I paced around some more, and she decided that the wind must be bothering me so she closed the curtains and locked the door to her room so it would stop rattling. When she curled up in bed again, I jumped up and sat on her chest and whined in her face, just so she could understand the bounds of my insomnia. Finally, I decided if I curled up right next to her, instead of at her feet, I might be able to sleep. So I did, and she scratched my neck until we both drifted off.
Then on my walk this morning, I made things drag out 30 minutes longer than they should have. And it was raining to boot! I love walking in the rain. Julie kept saying something about me being a brat and how she had just mopped the floors and how now her room smells like wet doggie. Oh well. I know she loves it.
Other than that, my life has been VERY exciting lately. Julie started taking me to the park to read, and I get to meet lots of different dogs that way. I met a Maltese that I really wanted to play with, but Julie was afraid I would kill him by accident. He was roughly the size of my head. And I met some Frenchies, who I liked very much until one tried to bite me. Even then, I just looked at him like I was surprised. I saw Aliyah again, and she and I played around. I wish that there were a dog run around that has high enough fences that I could go and play. This always being on a leash business stinks.
Julie says that I have to be on my best behavior tonight because one of her friends from college might be coming over. He's not a big fan of dogs, but she's sure I can win him over. Hm....maybe this is the time that I should let my true crazy Jindo nature show! You know, just to keep people on their toes. Can't let them get compliant now, can I?
