Arrival Story:
As far as we know, she was taken from a property where she was hanging out with 16 other dogs and not being properly cared for. She found her adoptive mothers in a parking lot on Fourth Street in Berkeley. One of her mothers hardly let the Girl Scout get her out of the van and put her on display before I rushed up to read her tag. Someone had named her Pixie and we loved it, so she got to keep the name. I whispered a lot of sweet promises in her ear like yummy doggy treats and a warm bed to curl up in at night. When we got her home, she was a little scared. She had never been on a leash before and didn't even know what the word "housetrained" meant. But soon she was learning when it was time to "do business" and how to go on a walk. In fact, she loves the word so much now that we have to spell it out if we don't want her to get too excited! My moms started out by telling me I would never be allowed on the couch or the bed, but every night we curl up together on the couch while they watch TV or read the newspaper. She has a wonderful personality that was finally able to come out once she was properly taken care of. Being half Black Lab and half Jack Russell Terrier, her personality is just as mixed. Sometimes she likes to lay low and sleep quietly. Other times, she runs as fast as a Greyhound and bounds around like a Jack Rabbit. She gets lots of comments about how cute and well-behaved she is which makes us beam proudly.

Bio:
We are looking for her sister. Also from the Milo Foundation and adopted in May of 2003 from 4th Street in Berkeley. We believe the name given to Pixie's sister from the Milo Foundation was Sheila. Please contact us if you have this dog!

My newfound life!

My life as Pixie

My life as Pixie seriously got better in May of 2003. I had spent 11 months trying my best to live amongst 16 other dogs on a neglected property in Mendocino County. I fought my way to get food and water and when the shelter picked me up, I was pretty skinny. I immediately got shipped down in a van to Berkeley's 4th Street so that I could be put on display for a possible adoption. My "mama" Krista picked me out of a crowd coming out from the van. A little Girl Scout had me on a leash and was starting to lead me to the holding pen. Krista ran across the lot and knocked the Girl Scout down just so she could pet me. I immediately peed because I was scared and I had had a long ride in the van.

But it was easy to see that Krista and CJ were going to give me a good home. Lots of people were in to me because of my black Lab/Jack Russell Terrier mix but CJ stood guard while Krista filled out the paperwork to take me home. It took me a little while to fatten up and come out of my shell but once I did, I was ready to be loved by all!

I have gained very high status in the neighborhood and especially on the Mills College campus. I have a particular affinity for good looking women that will rub my tummy. I spend many weekends at the Point Isobel water park where I swim my heart out catching the ball in the San Francisco Bay. At night, I curl up at my owners feet and put my paws over my eyes to block out any light. I love sniffing my backyard to death and keeping watch on the next door neighbor's cats. My life in short, has become exceptional. I'm spoiled and I love it. Everyone wants to be my friend and I welcome anyone who wants to be my Dogster buddy!
