Another comeback

Just wanted to let you know that Dogbert is snorring away at my feet.

Last august he went into surgery because of a slipped disc in his neck. One saturday he was walking really slow and when his dad tried to cheer him up he just laid down. That was quite concerning, so I called the vet, but they were all booked and we were told to bring him in on the following monday. During the day he got worse, screaming in pain even when he was lying still, so we called the vet, insisting that they would take a look at him. They did, but couldn't quite figure out what was wrong as the radiography didn't show anything.

They kept him hospitalized for a few days more before they did another radiography with contrast liquid, and finally they found a small slipped disc, which they took care of right away. He ended up being at the vets for six days, that felt like six weeks to me. And Im sure six years to him. When he came home he was exhausted and had to go to the toilet (or what ever dogs do) six or seven times in a row as Im sure they didnt take him for walks at the vets and he is a very clean dog. Doesnt even like to walk through puddles.

He had a big scar on the throat, that he didnt want me to touch or look at and he didnt want to move to much around.

We were told to keep him calm for 12 weeks, and at the beginning it was no problem, but eventually he got a bit bored being taken only for small walks. He was scared to be left alone for the first week and was a real mummys dog for quite some time after the surgery.

But it all ended well. He is almost 11 years old now and running around rolling in the grass, barking and setting the whole neighbourhood straight whenever needed (every day). However I think that the surgery and being alone away from home for so long has messed up his immune system, as he has developed some kind of allergy since he got home. I dont think that I would let him go through the whole thing again, as there were no warrants that he would be ok again. But dont tell him... ;-)

Still going strong

Hello. Just wanted to leave an update. Haven't lost the special Dogbert touch yet. Participated in small competition yesterday, and in every discipline I made up a new way of performing it. Or should I say perfecting it. Why run around searching for an object in a specific area, when you can find delicious food outside it? This was just an example of my innovative abilities. My mum says that what I define as food is really bunny poo. Whatever. Its very tasty.

since the vet told my mum that my hips are bad. I've lost a couple of pounds, and my mum feeds me pills covered by delicious liverpaste, I feel more energetic, I steal socks and hats if i'm bored - I'm pretty happy. Just started a new diet - "for senior dogs". They can call it what they want, its tasty!

Hi, Im Dogberts mum. He is doing fine, but since we had little pieces of gold put into his hips, he is so energetic, he has no time to write.

Ok, maybe thats not entirely true, but the gold has helped. It has been 6 weeks since the operation and little by little we have given him less painkillers, and it seems like he is doing ok without it. The operation cost us 5500 kr. - around 1100 USDollars I guess, and its all worth it. Now he is officially our Golden Boy.

Boohoo

Turns out I have really bad hips. All May I was in pain. Just lay in my bed, sleeping and suffering. Then one day in june, it hurt so bad, I could no longer carry my tail high as I use to do. My mum and dad got really nervous and took me to the vet. He gave me a shot of something niiice. The rest of that day was fab.

A few days later they took me to the vet again. And left me there. Absoultely unacceptable. Anyway, all of a sudden I fell asleep. When I woke up I started calling my mum, but it took some time, before she came to get me. And when she did, she was all shaky and teary.

But since that day, my hips have been better. Every morning I get a little treat, my "medicine" as my mum calls it, and I get to be carried up and down the stairs, to the car etc. Nice.

I had a dream

Did a lot of dreaming last night. Managed to stay fast asleep although my mom was awake, tossing and turning, stressing about something as usual.

Had looong dream about me setting other dogs straight. Especially the one that barks from the window on my evening walk. A bit of growling, abit of barking, and they were all at my paws.

So whats all this about the birds getting sick? I don't see any birds weaing a scarf. I don't har them cough. All I know is that they're in my way. Birdies, look out, cause here I come, and you don't wanna mess with me. Oh, and if you are sick, you'll make my mummy sad, so please be ok, or she'll look to me for comfort.

On sunday my mum acted really strange. She startede singing to me, and went on and on about my birthday. Don't know what that is, but I was thinking "If you can't eat it I don't care".

It turned out to be an ok day after all. All of a sudden my usual chicken-treats were replaced with deer-treats. And when I got back from my walk, she gave me a bone! Not bad at all.

Woke up last night when I heard a boom from the kitchen. Rushed out of bed to see what had happened. My mum and dad stayed in bed (almost unconscious). The kitchen didn't look right at all, so I decided to wake them up with a bow-wow!
Finally they managed to drag themselves out of bed, but when they saw the mess in the kitchen, I tell you they got busy. It turned out that the shelf where they keep their cookbooks and the coffeemaker had fallen down. Broken glass all over the floor. I wathed them cleaning up for a bit, then i headed back to bed, feeling pret-ty good about myself. What would they do without me?

Scared the carrots out of a bunny last night. On my evening-walk all of a sudden he was right in front of me. He jumped up and ran away, but I followed him untill I figured that he had learned the lesson: This is MY hood.
