Just wanted to let you know that Dogbert is snorring away at my feet.

Last august he went into surgery because of a slipped disc in his neck. One saturday he was walking really slow and when his dad tried to cheer him up he just laid down. That was quite concerning, so I called the vet, but they were all booked and we were told to bring him in on the following monday. During the day he got worse, screaming in pain even when he was lying still, so we called the vet, insisting that they would take a look at him. They did, but couldn't quite figure out what was wrong as the radiography didn't show anything.

They kept him hospitalized for a few days more before they did another radiography with contrast liquid, and finally they found a small slipped disc, which they took care of right away. He ended up being at the vets for six days, that felt like six weeks to me. And Im sure six years to him. When he came home he was exhausted and had to go to the toilet (or what ever dogs do) six or seven times in a row as Im sure they didnt take him for walks at the vets and he is a very clean dog. Doesnt even like to walk through puddles.

He had a big scar on the throat, that he didnt want me to touch or look at and he didnt want to move to much around.

We were told to keep him calm for 12 weeks, and at the beginning it was no problem, but eventually he got a bit bored being taken only for small walks. He was scared to be left alone for the first week and was a real mummys dog for quite some time after the surgery.

But it all ended well. He is almost 11 years old now and running around rolling in the grass, barking and setting the whole neighbourhood straight whenever needed (every day). However I think that the surgery and being alone away from home for so long has messed up his immune system, as he has developed some kind of allergy since he got home. I dont think that I would let him go through the whole thing again, as there were no warrants that he would be ok again. But dont tell him... ;-)

Still going strong

Hello. Just wanted to leave an update. Haven't lost the special Dogbert touch yet. Participated in small competition yesterday, and in every discipline I made up a new way of performing it. Or should I say perfecting it. Why run around searching for an object in a specific area, when you can find delicious food outside it? This was just an example of my innovative abilities. My mum says that what I define as food is really bunny poo. Whatever. Its very tasty.

since the vet told my mum that my hips are bad. I've lost a couple of pounds, and my mum feeds me pills covered by delicious liverpaste, I feel more energetic, I steal socks and hats if i'm bored - I'm pretty happy. Just started a new diet - "for senior dogs". They can call it what they want, its tasty!
