Arrival Story:
We went to a PetCo Adoption day, where the Ace of Hearts Foundation had several very nice dogs up for adoption. We walked one other dog before Dexter (then known as "Sparky", but my cousin already owns a dog named Sparky, plus the name didn't suit him), but just fell in love with Dexter. He was making this pitiful high pitched cry after he was put back in the crate after we walked him. I think he was asking to go home with us. He seemed so needy and depressed, the perfect dog for me! After hearing the sob story from the rescue lady who picked him up at the shelter the day he was to be euthanized, Dexter’s fate was sealed. He came to live with us and the rest is history.

Dexter has two girlfriends. The old roomies’ dog Sadie; they still have play dates. And our new neighbors’ dog, Cali. They are both very cute, Dexter is a lucky dog. He loves them both, but I don’t think the bitches know about each other yet. You’d better be careful Dex!

Memorial Day Remembered

I know Memorial Day was a little while ago, but I am a lazy dog and I don’t get around to writing in my journal so often. It was a great time! We had a pool party at grandpa’s house (that’s daddy’s dad). Grandpa is out of the country on vacation so he wasn’t there, but mom and dad invited all their friends over for a BBQ and swimming. I was a little nervous because both of my girlfriends, Sadie and Cali, were invited and they had never met each other before. They are both very much Alpha dogs, and they got into a little bit of a spat at first, but then everyone got along just fine. We had fun playing and running, but I do not like the pool! The humans tried to get me in, but I wouldn’t have it. I jumped out as soon as I could. The pool looked so scary, like it might swallow them! I was all wet so I had to dry off by rolling on the deck and getting dirt all over me.

I hope we can have another party just like this one really soon! I love hotdogs!

All Better

Last week I started not feeling so good one night, and I really had to go, if you know what I mean. But mommy was fast asleep and I couldn’t hold it any longer. I left the bedroom and did what I had to do on the carpet. Dad was really mad when he came home and saw what happened, but I couldn’t help it!

Mom took me to the vet after a couple days when it didn’t get better, and I needed to go for some vaccinations anyway. The doctor said the test didn’t show anything was wrong, and that I was really good when I was getting my shots. I like the vet because there are always lots of interesting smells and the people are very nice to me there. This time there were 5 cats in the waiting room! But mom wouldn’t let me play with or sniff any of them. Phooey!

When I still wasn’t better after another day, dad called the vet and they told him I needed medicine. Ick! Unless it can be wrapped in bologna or stuck in peanut butter I don’t want any medicine. This stuff was a gross pink liquid and smelled really bad. Mom put peanut butter on the rim to try and trick me, but I still knew it was icky. I put up a pretty good fight and got the pink stuff all over the kitchen and mommy and daddy and my face. But after two doses my problem seems to have cleared up. Thank dog! I couldn’t take any more of that stuff.

Hi, let's be friends! May I sniff you?

My name is Dexter and I live with my mommy and daddy in Los Angeles. I used to live at the beach in a house with my girlfriend Sadie, and a couple of human friends and their two cats as well, but I guess the humans thought it was too crowded. So my humans and I moved to some spiffy new digs a couple of months ago. I still get to visit with them though, and at my new home in the apartment downstairs there’s this really cute blond named Cali. She and I visit all the time and we like to wrestle and play and kiss! Her humans are OK, they think I’m “the cutest Mister ever”. I’ll have to agree.

I don’t like to be alone ever. It makes me cry and I scratch at the door. It has been very hard to not have Sadie or anyone around when my humans are gone, but I am starting to get used to it now. Plus, I can jump on the bed and bring my peanut butter bone with me when they’re gone. I even learned to open the refrigerator when the humans were out. Yum! I ate pizza and cheese and all kinds of good stuff. But now they block the fridge when they leave. Spoil sports!

I like my new home and my humans, and I like to make new friends. My mommy is always talking about her imaginary internet friends, so I want some now too. Let’s do (cyber)lunch.
