Best Tricks:

Arrival Story:
I went to petfinder.com and fell in love with this small black dog with white markings on her chest! Veronica was a rescue from a shelter, and was transferred to Ridgewater Vet School where they gave her lots of love and made her more adoptable by spaying, micro-chiping, vaccinating, etc. We drove almost 3 hours to meet her, and brought her a greenies toothbrush-shaped bone as a gift WE DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE BAD FOR DOGS!!! We were told that a few other people had expressed interest in adopting Veronica, and that towards the end of the semester the school would make their decision. I emailed The school repeatedly, assuring them that we had a place with a yard and that we had many friends with dogs and jeesh, we are the land of 10, 000 lakes, what more could there be to offer? We had to wait less than a week for them to congratulate us on becoming Veronica's chosen family! We drove back up to Wilmar with the back seat filled with a new leash, red collar with stars, and all kinds of toys! Our drive home together was one of the happiest moments for all of us! Veronica got to ride with her head out the window and watched as the country roads opened up into the big city of Minneapolis to welcome her... home.

Bio:
Everyone mistakes Veronica for a male lab puppy, but if you notice her long curly eyelashes, she is definately a pretty pretty princess. Veronica shares her home with Brigette and Jim (we brought her home on our 2 yr aniversary) and three cats ( Re, Lydia and James). Veronica still experiences SOME separation anxiety if left alone but with the assistance of the citronella collar she is doing so much better. She and the cats are making it to the "I won't scratch your face off but I will still hiss at you" phase. The cats also wait until she is asleep to go cuddle together. Just recently veronica abd re have started playing kissy face and veronica cleans re's ears for him. Jim is very happy that we didn't get a small yippity back-flipping dog. Infact, when he calls her "baby" and rubs her tummy my heart melts a bit too! Veronica is named after a beautiful Elvis Costello song that we felt captured her charm, playful manner and innocence.

My Tail of Devotion for Veronica

Oh Veronica- Thanks for not giving up on us the first day we came to see you at the shelter, when Jim accidentally dropped the leash and you went running off into the field. Luckily you came back to us, perhaps sensing that the people you were running away from would love and spoil you more than you or they would ever have thought possible. Maybe you sensed the opportunity to trade in a cold cement floor and caged in kennel for 3/4 of our pillow top bed and anywhere else in our car or apartment that you choose to call home (including the japaneese silk pillows). So what if I went through 4 area rugs in the first 2 months of our time together- I take it this was your way of saying the rug didn't "pull teh room together." We have defended the fact that you are a female, a preciuous flower, not that kind of girl-almost a big girl, but certainly NOT a male lab puppy! We get a kick out of making up your breed when people ask..." labeaglerrier, " terrilabeagle," and "super cute" are some of my favorites. We have introduced you to three wonderfully cautious cats to befriend, and luckily on colder nights, they trust a little bit more freely. The cats thank you for helping them watch their weight, by finishing off their food and leaving more water on the floor than in their bowls (that's okay, you must think the kitties look awful cute shaking wet paws in the air). Who knew my heart would melt watching you and Jim playing together. Thanks for trusting that even if we go to the store, the laundromat, or god forbid a date everyone and a while, that JIm and I will always come back for you. Who knew that I woudl turn into that crazzy office lady with pictures of her dog and cats everywhere, I am surprised my desktop has not crashed with all the background icons featuring... you of course.
Veronica, you were named after one of my favorite songs that came on the radio right as I was driving away from the shelter after our first visit. I devoted every day after that to contacting the shelter and begging them to choose us as your forever family. Now here we are, our friends refer to our house as "jumangi," I have a large tub filled with bits and pieces and shreds of remains of all of your toys, I can't throw them away, they are like a child's first pair of shoes!
We love you shmoopie kins, thanks for every moment of the good, the bad and the super cute!

a new start

well, it has been about 2 months since we moved into our new place.. I am sooo much closer to the dog park now, I can almost smell it from the front steps of the porch! Mom and JIm are so proud of me- I have yet to poop or pee in the new house. I am all over using potty pads or having accidents, or pooping on the floor when I am left alone! I don;t even freak out when they leave, I am totally chill living here in Uptown.
This month was the month of new, new , new. We go ta new bed- which I think is just divine... and mom got a new car, although I am sad to report that on day 2 of the new car I got so excited about the moonroof that I puked green foamy yuckiness all over the front seat. Mom sure needed a moment, but things are fine now. I also just turned 2 and celebrated my one year anniversary in my forever home with mom, jim and those cats! Speaking of the cats, ever since the move we have all grown on each other- or maybe the new piullow top bed brought us together... who knows, but we are all cool-i-o now!
I guess I should close by adding that I have been a bit naughty ( hey I am a member of the naughty pups, I have to represent).. anyway one afternoon while mom and jim ran into the store, I jumped in the hatch back/trunk of the old car and dug my way into jim's bag where I found the most delicious turkey and swiss grilled hoagie- man that was awesome, and some kettle chips to go with it.. I ate it all, except the bread, I mean c'mon girls gotta watch their carbs!

I am such a big girl now!

mom says this to me all the time- "you are such a big girl, big brave dog!"
I don't know what we are the most proud of- the fact that mom and I learned together how to properly trim my black nails- mom calls them "toesies"... she's not so tuff, but I love her... mom.... I also get left to guard the house atleast once a day now- I have no idea for how long they are gone for, it seems like forever and ever each time, but the mom and jim- they always come back - just like they say they will! AND I SHOULD MENTION... I do n to ALWAYS poop on the floor when they leave- I am getting better at that too- "poop is for outside- you poopy outside" that's what mom says. Jim says "hey crap factory- park it outside" which I think means the same thing. How's come they get to poop inside, where it's warm in a bowl, I don't know, but until they give me an honest explenation, het they CAN and SHALL expect a cold wet nose to bump there leg when they are sitting down.
Me and the cats- we totally got it down, you know, WHO is "in charge"- mostly them, but hey, step to my bones and I am "in yo face kitty cat."
We are moving- atleast that's what word in the house is- and all the boxes of stuff. I went to the new place- there is nothing in it, I don't know what they were excited about, I hope they bring some of our stuff to the new place, like the couch, and bed, and ooooh those japanese silk pillows... girls gotta live the plush life. I wonder if those cats are coming?
