I grew up with a dachshund named Rusty who died in 1998. When I got married, my husband swore I would never have one because there are only 2 dogs that have ever bitten him and they were both dachshunds. After Christmas in 2002, I came home from work and saw my husband with my new dachshund puppy, Penny, on his shoulder. He told me that he was hoping that I could have her for Christmas Day but she wasn't quite ready. The Beedy became his pet-name for her.
