Quick Bio:

Birthday:
July 7th 1989

Likes:
Eating!, sleeping, eating, and going for car rides! He also likes licking the bath water off mom's ankles after a shower (mmmm... bath water). Oh, did I mention that he also likes eating?

Pet-Peeves:
When you don't give him any of your food.

Favorite Toy:
his stuffed camel and his bagel bone

Favorite Food:
Anything that you are eating. His favorite are tomatoes and he also has a bad habit of picking up and eating sharp objects from the ground (i.e., staples, thumbtacks, pieces of glass, rocks, nails, rusty screws, etc.)

Favorite Walk:
He has arthritis in his back and bad knees, so he doesn't walk very far, but he loves car rides!

Arrival Story:
I've had Prince since he was just a few months old and I got him from a woman who was giving him away free!

Bio:
When he was very young, the woman who gave him to me told me that he had his tail broken because it had accidently gotten caught in a door. She never had it fixed and his tail healed crookedly. He has had a kink in his tail ever since . . . Prince is named after the Singer/Artist with the same name. We also made up the term "Peki-Dac" for Prince since he is a mix between a Pekingese and Dachshund. Prince has a great laid-back personality. He rarely ever barks and when he does, it is usually because he wants food or to go outside. He never barks or growls at people or other dogs and he is very easygoing. Prince also has bad Periodontal disease and has had to have several teeth removed as a result. So, we often joke about how few teeth he has left. But it never stops him from eating! Also, when Prince's hair has grown out long and his snaggle-tooth is sticking out, we often refer to him as a Jim Henson creation (Muppet-boy). In January 2003, we almost thought that we were going to lose Prince. He became extremely ill, lethargic, and lost his appetite. For several days our vet ran many tests on him and could not find the exact problem. She thought that there might be a problem with his liver. Eventually, after taking him to a diagnostic clinic at the request of our vet, they determined that his gallbladder needed to be removed. He has been doing well since his surgery, but it was a close call and the people at the clinic saved his life. Now our vet says that Prince is the only dog that she knows whose had his gallbladder removed. Now we tease Prince and keep telling him that he has to go get a job to pay for the expensive veterinary bills, but unfortunately he never listens to us. Dear Diary,

Today is August 31st 2005. This is Prince's mother speaking and through my tears I have to find the courage to say goodbye to my best friend of 16-years. Today Prince went to Rainbow Bridge. . .

Over the last week, he developed a severe chest infection and eventually his lungs became filled with fluid. Today, we decided that on top of all his other health problems it would be best to put him to sleep rather than make him go through more treatments that may not work. It's been difficult for us these past few months since we found out that he developed brain tumors back in December. But, I'm grateful that we have had the last eight months with him. Even with all his health problems that we've had to deal with, I would never give up these last few months with him.

I am so grateful to have had Prince in my life and I know that I am a better person for having had him touch my life. I'm also glad that I got a chance to share him with you on Dogster. It means a lot to me to know that I have this webpage as a memory to him. And I'm grateful to everyone who runs and supports Dogster because otherwise I might not have had the opportunity to share him with others and this webpage gives me a way to celebrate his life every day. He was my friend and he made me laugh every day. Eventually, I hope to be able to see him again one day on the other side of Rainbow Bridge.

Prince. . .I love you a lot and I will miss you greatly.

Love,
Mom

Hi All,

Happy Birthday to Me! Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my Sixteenth birthday and my mom is so excited because she wasn't sure that I would make it this long because I have a lot of health problems. Back in December we found out that I have some brain tumors and we were told that I might only have a few months to live. Well, it's been about 7 months now and I'm still going strong and my meds seem to be keeping everything under control (knock on wood).

Anyhow, my friend Jasmine sent me a really cute birthday song and I thought that I would share it with everybody. Here it goes:

"Ok, here's your song! *Ahem*
Happy Birthday to youuuu!
Lots of booones for youuuu!
Happy Birthday dear Priiiiiince!
Happy Birthday to youuuu! Aruuu!"

Thanks Jasmine for the nice birthday wishes. Also, I think my mom is going to give me a special treat today. [whispering] Possibly a frosty paws! (but don't tell her that I know....heeheehee). Well, I can't believe I made it another year! Senior doggies rule...Woof, Woof!!!

Getting old really sucks!

Dear Diary,

I have to say that getting old really sucks! Well, things haven’t been going very well for me lately. Back in December my mom and dad noticed that I suddenly began to start walking into things around the house and I began walking in circles. Then about a week later I began to have seizures, so they took me to the vet to have an MRI done. The vet found three small masses in my brain. Technically, they can't tell if the spots that they saw on the MRI are tumors or strokes unless they do a biopsy. But the vet said that if they were multiple strokes, then they would most likely have occurred in one weaker place in my brain and not three different places, so it is most likely that they are tumors. But we still don't know if they are cancerous or not unless we do a biopsy. When my mom heard this news, she started crying and I tried to make her feel better by giving her doggy kisses. Anyhow, since the visit with the vet, I have been stable. The vet gave me medicine for the seizures and meds to keep the swelling down in my brain. Like I don’t already take enough meds! Those vets like giving me lots of medications but I don’t mind because that just means that mom and dad have to give me a bigger dog-food meatball to hide my meds in. Anyhow, since I’ve been on the new meds, I’ve been walking better than before and I have completely stopped circling and walking into stuff. My mom also recently graduated from college and is looking for a job, so she has been staying home with me and taking care of me and I really enjoy all the attention that I’ve been getting lately. My mom says that even though I’ve gotten sick, I still make her laugh every day. Sometimes I give her my grumpy “grandpa face” and she cracks up. Well, I’ve got to go take my midday nap, so I’ll try to keep you all updated about my condition.....

Kisses from Prince
