03/14/07: Alf had to be put to sleep today. We will miss him. A few weeks ago we found out his liver was failing after witnessing some strange behavior. He had been walking into things and stopping in the middle of the hall and staring into space and missing his water bowl and hitting the wall. We decided it was best to let him live out his days until he started showing signs of pain. But, it never happened. All of a sudden he went to a spot in the office and layed down and didn't get up. He kept breathing but wouldn't move...even for food or water...all day. We expected him to not make it through the night but he was still breathing- in the same spot as the night before- but not moving. We called the vet and it was determined it was time for him to go to doggy heaven. We can only assume his liver failed completely and he was dying and didn't want him to be in any pain. We will miss his growly and scruffy little face.
