Bio:
Lady is a beautiful four-year-old Shetland Sheepdog who came to the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (www.daws.org) in April 2005 on a transport from Kentucky. She wasn't abandoned on the side of the road, or abused, or neglected; she was someone's pet. No one really knows what happened to her owner, except that she is missing. Lady was surrendered to the shelter by her owner's mother, who couldn't care for Lady or her "brother" Champ anymore. Lady and Champ came to DAWS and Champ was quickly adopted. Lady had a promising outlook for a happy ending. A family was going to adopt her and brought their dog in for an introduction. Lady got scared and accidentally broke her leg trying to hide from the other dog. The break was severe and, after 8 months trying various treatments to promote healing, we had to amputate her leg. She went through 3 surgeries - one to attach an external fixator to her leg - and slept with her ecollar every night. Now she's healing, bouncing around, and very HAPPY. Freddie and I adopted her in July - we can't imagine how we ever lived without her.
