Mommy is sick......yay for me!

So today is a great day. My mommy is sick with something she calls "a killer cold." She is hot, and then cold, and then hot. And she's wheezy. And sneezy. And she coughs a lot. And feels like poo. You may be wondering why mommy's sickness is a great thing. I feel bad for mommy, don't get me wrong, but I'm so happy that she is home with me today!! Usually she goes back to work on Monday, but not today! Today she stayed in bed with me. I'm so happy that mommy is home that I think I'll stay close by her side today. It's the least I can do to show her how thankful I am that she is home today.

Can dogs catch human "killer colds"?? I hope not.....

Well, doggies, it's been a long time since I've had a diary entry. Sorry about that! I just wanted to let everyone know that my mommy and daddy brought home a new sister for me this week! She doesn't look like me, though. Mommy and Daddy say that she's something called "Cat" and they named her Allie. She doesn't really want to play with me yet....I don't know why, cuz I'm a fun boy! We do both sleep in Mommy's bed, though. Her food is also yummy, but Mommy and Daddy keep telling me to stop eating it! I am so happy to have a new sister.

I put some pictures up of me and Allie. She has a Catster page now, so if you have any kitties, please add Allie as a friend!

New Toy!!

Last week, my mom decided to be mean and go away for 4 days to New York for work! I was determined to let her know how mad I was at her when she got back....I mean, come on! How could she leave me? I'm so cute!

Anyway, I was all ready to be mad when she got home. She got back very late at night, and I stayed up waiting for her 'cause I wanted to tell her exactly how NOT happy I was that she didn't take me with her. So she walked in the door, and just as I was getting ready to give her a piece of my mind, she pulled something out of her bag and handed it to me....and all of a sudden I wasn't so mad.

Mommy got me a stuffed yellow duck that looks like a rubber duckie....and it has a crown on its head and a torch in it's hand just like the Statue of Liberty! When I bite it, it makes quacking noises! I wasn't so mad anymore 'cause she DID think of me when she was gone! She got me an official New York quacking duckie! I feel so special. Maybe I won't be so mad the next time she goes away for a few days (although I would be even happier if she took me with her next time!)

So it's been a long time since my last mommy has been neglecting my Dogster page! I told her that my pals were waiting to hear from me, so she finally decided to update my diary. Believe me, I'd do it myself, but I'm not a good typer. Stupid keyboard!

Tomorrow is the 4th of July, and you know what that meas....FIREWORKS! Quick, run and hide! I do not like the big ka-booms! It feels like the noise is going to reach in my house and get me. I don't like it. Not one little bit.

I think I'm going to start building my bunker that keeps me safe from the fireworks. I know! I'll make a Panic Room! It'll be complete with bacon strips, water, and a big fluffy pillow bed with lots of blankets. I think I'll just camp out there until July 5.

Off to the bunker.........Happy 4th of July!

Woof for Weekends!

Well, it's been such a great week. I have lots of new pup pals and got a new rosette. Plus, my pals Joy and Pepe both made orange pics for me to use to celebrate the ASPCA's anniversary. Mommy e-mailed my orange pic to the ASPCA, and they put it on their website photo album. Whoo hoo!

The highlight of my Dogster week was when I was featured on the "For the Love of Dogs" blog! They put up a story about the new Dogster book club group that Charlotte and I are starting--and put up a big picture of me. My mommy and I were both surprised to see me on Dogster's blog.....mommy and daddy sure were proud of me!

I have an embarassing secret to tell. You've got to promise not to laugh at me. Yesterday morning, at about 5:30 am, it was raining really hard and howling wind. I laid in bed with mommy for a while and was really scared---I was even shaking and shivering with fright. I really hate loud wind and rain! I hate it as much as I hate thunder! Anyway, so I finally felt the need to take cover, so I leaped off of mommy's bed and went into the closet. And happened. I was so scared, that accidently.....uh......peed in the closet. On my one of my daddy's t-shirts that was laying on the floor. I was so embarassed that I didn't want to wake mommy, so I just went to sleep in the closet. Mommy didn't find the pee shirt until she came home from work that day, and I begged her not to tell Daddy, but she did anyway. Mommy and Daddy weren't mad at me, though. They know how scared I get. Now, don't go laughing at me, pups! It takes a real man to admit a mistake!

Well, it's Saturday night, so I'm gonna go party down with mommy and daddy on the couch. I love weekends.....nothin' but good times with mommy and daddy. Til later Dogsters!

Bad Thunder!

OK, so there was some thunder the other day, but I was pretty brave and only hid part of the time. Plus, my daddy brought home burgers and chili fries for dinner (mommy looooooooves chili fries), so that distracted me. I was way too busy trying to mooch chili fries to worry about thunder.

But.....I just saw on the weather report that severe thunderstorms are coming overnight!! (Yes, it's a little known fact that I, Kevin the coonhound, really enjoy the evening news. Just ask my mommy. I'm a smarty-dog!) mommy and daddy get frustrated at me when there are overnight storms because I am up and down and running around the entire time trying to find a place where I can't hear thunder. That means that I keep my mommy and daddy up all night too. I'll try to be brave tonight, mommy, I promise. Beggin' Strips and cheese might help me to be brave. Just a hint.

Gotta hide!

Uh oh........................I overheard my mommy and daddy talking this morning, and they said that the weatherman was saying that we're getting thunderstorms this afternoon/evening! Now, I don't know about you guys, but thunderstorms are in my Top 5 things that make me scared. Call me a wuss---I don't care what anyone says, I think the thunder is going to shake my house down!! I'm not normally a run and hide type of guy, but something comes over me when I hear thunder, and I gotta find the smallest, most den-like place that I can and then stay there until it's all done.

Maybe I should see a doggie-therapist about my Thunder Phobia. Or maybe I should start a Thunder Phobia support group on Dogster.

Woofs to all my pals! KEVIN

P.S. Thanks to my pup pals Sophie, Jane, and Tucker for the Rosettes!!

I met the author of "Marley & Me"!!!

Oh man........I had a brush with a real, live famous person the other night! My daddy gave my mommy this book for Christmas called "Marley & Me" that she really loves! Well, I don't love it so much because she started crying at the end of the book, and I felt sad because she was sad---and I don't like anything that makes my mommy sad!! She must like to be sad, though, because she still loves that book.

Anyway, so on Wednesday night, my mommy and daddy got home from work and I knew something was up. They put my good collar on me, and started putting on their coats......and then they put the harness and leash on me, which can only mean one thing.......................CAR RIDE!!!! I can't express how much I LOOOOOOOOOVE car rides!! But then my mommy grabbed that book about Marley that makes her sad and took it with us. I thought to myself "Oh no. She is going to read it in the car and cry and ruin my car ride."

So we went on a car ride and it was so awesome, especially because my mommy kept that sad book closed. Then, when we got out of the car, we were at a big place called Borders, which mommy says is a "Bookstore." And I guess this Borders place is really nice because they let mommies and daddies bring in their doggies. So mommy and daddy took me into Borders, and up to the second floor, and there were a bunch of people there--some with doggies--and they all had that sad Marley book! I thought "Oh great, now everyone will be sad and crying." But then this man walked up to the front of all the people, and they were all happy! Turns out, this man is called John Grogan and he wrote that sad Marley book! My mommy said that he is a nice man who loves doggies, and that he is famous! Woweeee! The John Grogan man talked for a while, then he signed my mommy's sad book about Marley---and he wrote in her book "To Emily and Kevin [that's me!!!] Woof! John Grogan" I feel so special that he wrote a note to lil' ol' me! Maybe I should ask mommy to read that book to me now...........I'll just ask her to skip the sad parts.

So that is the story about how I, Kevin the Coonhound, met a famous author AND got a personal note from him! Now I just need to meet that dog Beethoven from the movies......does he do book signings? WOOF!

I'm a Travelin' Hound!

I had such a fun weekend! I took a trip in the car with my mommy and daddy up to Traverse City, which is where my mommy's parents and grandparents live. It is a 4 hour car ride, and I gotta say---I was a really good boy! Yeah, sometimes I got a little antsy, but I mostly just snoozed and helped my daddy navigate. I did get a little bit outta control when we stopped at Wendy's for dinner, but it smelled sooooo good! I couldn't help myself!

My favorite thing about visiting my grandma and grandpa in Traverse City is my best friend Chester. Chester is technically my uncle--he's my grandma and grandpa's dog. He is so cool---he is a Shar-Pei/Pointer mix and we love to play. Our favorite thing is wrestling. It's like our own WWF! Don't worry, we don't hurt each other----sometimes we nip a little too hard by accident. My mommy says "It's all fun and games until somebody gets hurt!"

I love to play with my buddy Chester so much that it's hard for me to sleep at night. Usually I'm a big-time sleeper---I sleep right through the night and will even sleep in until 10 or 11 am if my mommy lets me. But when I stay at Chester's house, it's like I've been drinking Mountain Dew all night---I just can't sleep! I try to be my good, normal, sleepy self---but usually around 3:00 am I just can't stand it anymore! I jump up on my mommy's bed and jump off the other side, and keep going back and forth, jumping on her bed. Sometimes I get so frustrated that she won't wake up, I start to whine a little. I try not to because no one likes a cry-baby dog, but I just can't help myself! My mommy gets kinda mad when I wake her up all night long, which I feel bad about, but maybe she should just let me sleep downstairs in Chester's room. That way I won't wake her up! I think that's a brilliant idea, but my mommy thinks that we'll start playing WWF in the middle of the night and wake up the whole house. Maybe she's right on that........

The good news is that spending a few days at Chester's house usually wipes me out, so I spent the whole car ride back asleep! When I got back to my house, I got right on the couch and slept---I didn't even wanna wake up for my dinner!

But I'm well rested now, and ready to play! Maybe my daddy and I can play WWF later........he's not as fun as Chester, but he'll do just fine!

Crazy Daddy!

Boy, I don't know what that last diary entry was all daddy's pretty crazy! He must have broken into my Dogster account and wrote a diary entry like he was me! How nutty!

Speaking of my daddy, he got real sick with the flu last week. So sad for him, but happy for me because he stayed home all day with me for two days in a row! I did my best to make him feel all better....I layed in bed with him to keep him warm and was real quiet. Quite a feat for a coonhound like me!

I am so, so excited because I got a few new Dogster pals! There are so many cool dogs out there...and I even found a few other dogs named Kevin! My mommy says that when she and daddy adopted me, they wanted to give me a name that nobody expected for a dog---but I guess a few other doggy parents out there think just like my mommy and daddy!

Well, better go......I haven't had a nap in about 15 minutes, so I'm getting a bit sleepy.
