Fetching, swimming, packing things around in his mouth, wagging his tail in all directions
Sore hips from too much fetching, cranky poodles, people who change their appearance and become scary (e.g., stand up)
Tennis ball, squeeky hamburger, stuffed animals, Kenya, socks, anything that fits in his mouth
Cheese, liver, dog cookies
Hi-five, head down
I brought Oliver as a puppy from a shelter where he was slated for euthanasia (due to lack of space) to a no-kill shelter where I was volunteering. After three months at the shelter, mostly spent in the sick ward, then five months in foster care with me, his health was determined to be too poor to allow him to be adopted by the general public. Given the choice between giving him back for euthanasia and keeping him, I kept him. How could I not? Look at that face.
Oliver Update: Fall, 2004. Oliver has been adopted by my fabulous dog walker (and soon-to-be-vet-student) Aggie, and we hope he will be able to have new hips with her one day. He now has his own website: www.skunknosedog.com !
Oliver has severe hip dysplasia and a compromised immune system. He is also extremely shy, but once you get to know him he's the most adorable dog in the world. He must have something in his mouth at all times and if he can't find a toy, he'll just hold your hand, ever so gently, with his tail wagging off in all kinds of crazy directions.
