My 1st Hip Surgery!

Well....a couple of weeks ago, I had the 1st of 2 surgeries for my hips. The surgery took only 2 hours, but it seemed like it took forever. When I got there, they took my blood, mommy said that this was to check and be sure I was ok to go under anesthesia. Then they put a catheter in my arm...this was so I could get fluids while they were doing surgery on me. I was getting kind of scared, but my mommy was with me the whole time, so I knew that I would be ok. Next, I got shaved (by my mom) boy did she give me a silly haircut. She made me look like I am wearing a t-shirt and socks, but no pants. Then next they put some white stuff into my catheter and that is all I remember until I woke up. My mommy said that the surgeon made 3 incisions. You can see one of those scars in my pictures...pretty cool huh!? After I woke up, I decided to sleep somemore, my mommy decided since I was awake and doing ok that she would come back and pick me up later when I was more awake. I wasn't in too much pain at all. They gave me lots of happy drugs so I wouldn't hurt. After all those fluids, boy did I have to pee when I got home. That night I slept really well in my new crate that I will have to stay in for the next 3 months. Well that is all for now, I will have my mommy write more when they are getting closer to do my next surgery. But for now I just a bored puppy stuck in my crate!

Getting ready for a BIG surgery!

My mommy took me to the vet last Friday because I have been have trouble getting up and running around. Since my mommy was a vet tech she was very worried at what the vet would find. The vet moved and pulled on my legs, then they brought me back to this dark room and put me on this slick table. I was very nervous. They laid me on my back and the machine made a funny noise. After that was done...I got to go sit outside and lay in the warm sun. That was nice. Then we went back into the vet hospital...I love that place...and they took me back to that room again. They had these funny looking pictures the wall that had a light behind it. The vet and my mommy were talking about how bad my hips looked and that even though I am only 6 1/2 months old I would need surgery to get them repaired. They said that I had bilateral hip dysplasia.

A few days later I got to go back to the vet so that my mommy could talk to the surgeon and figure out which surgery was best for me and when to do it. The surgeon said that surgery had to be started as soon as possible and that they were going to do a TPO (triple pelvic osteotomy) on both of my hips. The earliest that the surgeon could do my 1st of 2 surgeries is next Tuesday. I hear that 4-5 weeks after that surgery I will be getting my 2nd surgery. The one things that I heard that does not sound fun at all is that I will have to be on cage rest and have no contact with my brother and sister and my friends for 3 months. But mommy says that I will get to do alot of swimming for my physical therapy after those 3 months are over.

Mommy is going to take me to the dogpark all this week and I get to swimming before my surgery. I will have my mommy let you know how I am doing. But for now I gonna go have some fun!
