Arrival Story:
UPDATE: Email from Barbara, founder of BONES Animal Rescue, the organization who rescued Murphy: Feb 7, 06 Sadly, we have had to have Murphy put to sleep. It wasn't related to his cancer. He had a severe stroke, which was bad enough that he couldn't overcome it. I'm so glad that we got him from the pound and that he had this time with us. He was such a sweet old guy and was a pleasure to have here in my home. He was a real fighter, having overcome the cancer treatment and the vestibular disorder. What a wonderful spirit he had. ( The following was written by Barbara Thrasher, founder of BONES ANIMAL RESCUE http://covelo.net/animal_rescue/bo nes.shtml) One of our many successful rescues is a Miniature Schnauzer we named Murphy. He was at the Sacramento County Animal Control where he was on the euthanasia list. He is an older dog and was very matted and obviously neglected. When he was groomed he magically turned into a gorgeously handsome fellow. Murphy had a lump on his rectum. It was an anal gland tumor. Biopsy determined it to be a very aggressive malignancy. We had it removed. The pathologist said he would have 4 months to a year before it comes back. We celebrated Murphy’s one year anniversary of the tumor removal was last week. He continues to be healthy and cancer free. Our vet thinks it won’t come back. Murphy is still hoping for a home of his own someday, but until that time he is very happy here with us and his other dog and cat friends.
